I'd be interested in a more complicated companion joining the Doctor, someone who isn't wowed (or indeed blinded) by all that travelling through time can bring. Maybe someone who has no choice but to travel with him. A slightly resentful companion who flat out doesn't agree with The Doctor's methods would be a great foil for Capaldi.
