While it opens wonderfully, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is never able to quite find solid footing. It has some great performances and moments that are both heartbreaking and/or humorous. But, it constantly finds itself chasing a bigger and bigger emotional response from the audience. It jumps around from what it takes for Kim, especially as a woman, to cover stories during the war, to her life in Kabul with other reporters, and never hits enough depth with either. Despite being enjoyable, it promises highs that it never delivers.
