Chris Rock’s opening monologue at the 88th Academy Awards was kind of like listening to a Macklemore album. The people who need to hear the message aren’t going to get it. When Macklemore dropped “White Privilege II,” the internet mostly responded with resounding confusion. That’s, of course, because the internet is “woke.” The internet didn’t need Macklemore’s song, because we talk about intersectionality on the internet and follow Matt McGorry, so we know all about racial injustice and seek to stomp out white privilege wherever it stands. If this is an oversimplification of “hashtag activism” as it’s been branded by some, that’s because it’s meant to be. Because Chris’ monologue was the very definition of an oversimplification.
Shaz from FL writes: “The Academy Awards are just around the corner, and if recent shows are any indication, Oppenheimer will be taking its biggest prize. But should it?”
Oscars 2023 might witness new rounds of celebrations, accolades, and the usual reminiscence of the Slapgate fiasco.

I am so tired of this stuff. I think Chris Rock did a great job by not just pandering to the #OscarSoWhite side, but people need to move on too. Are we going to start nominating people just based on skin color now in the name of diversity? I am so tired of it that I can imagine someone arguing Lupita Nyong'o won because of her skin color because she was barely in 12 Years A Slave. Her biggest scene was just getting beaten. I hope people know the blood wasn't real; she did not actually sacrifice herself for the role.
Doing my best to not comment on these things because I'm finding it stupid.
I just find it hard to believe that the Academy is so "racist" yet they've nominated and awarded minority actors and films many times in recent years, let alone all together. Also wouldn't "best foreign film" technically be a minority thing too? It isn't just one group that takes minority, it's several.
If these cry babies got their way, if you were a white male you wouldn't be allowed to be nominated and that to me is racist. Just because you didn't win doesn't mean you pull the race card. Sorry, but instead of crying about it why not bring to the table a film that deserves the award? Deserves to be nominated? A film that clearly was better or could compete with the films that were nominated? What would your answer be, Straight Outta Compton?
Place your bets who wins Best Actor next year Will Smith or Idris Elba ? Leo most likely won this year because a white person is not winning next year
Maybe if there were more black actors like Denzel Washington and less black "actors" like Kevin Hart, there would be more black oscar nominations/winners
