GON: With Ride Along 2 coming out we took a look back and find out what are the best Comedy Sequels of all time.
Joblo
You should know exactly what you're getting with Ride Along 2 (formulaic comedy and action) and it doesn't do anything to exceed those expectations. If you're a big fan of Kevin Hart and/or Ice Cube it may be worth a rental or TV viewing. Otherwise, feel free to skip.
TRR: Cut from the same cloth as movies like Rush Hour 2 and 22 Jump Street, Ride Along 2 offers more of the same buddy-cop routine as its predecessor, while slightly upping the ante in terms of its action set-pieces. Don't bother wasting brain cells overthinking it; just sit back and enjoy the ride.
FGE - In the first Ride Along movie, there’s a scene in which Kevin Hart’s character visits a firing range and progressively tries out bigger and bigger guns. The problem with this set up? You can see the pay off coming from a mile away. This is a problem that plagues its sequel. Being higher in production value and offering a vibrant new setting in Miami, Ride Along 2 is nowhere near as funny as it needs to be in order to save these brothers-in-law from bland character development and a by the numbers cop story.
