Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and based on the best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue (who also wrote the screenplay), this Oscar-nominated drama stars Brie Larson as Joy, a young woman who has been kidnapped and imprisoned for seven years, locked within a tiny room secured by a steel door with an electronic key code, which her middle-aged, Fritzl-like captor, Old Nick (Sean Bridgers) opens every night to deliver supplies, before raping her and leaving. To her five year old son Jack (newcomer Jacob Tremblay), born in captivity, “Room” is the only world he knows, with everything else dismissed as “not real, just television”.
