2020 has been a lot of things: bizarre, tragic, and frustrating among them. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended people’s lives and practically every industry, and the movie business was not spared. At the end of every year, we look back and reflect, and even that is different this year. Here are eight of 2020’s biggest news-making events in the realm of film, both related to the pandemic, and not.
FM: Morricone is clearly emotional in accepting the award, and it’s not hard to see why. After a career encompassing more than 400 scores across every conceivable genre, this was the moment where he was finally been embraced by the movies’ most prestigious awards ceremony, in the twilight years of his life at the age of 87.
The fact that this is his first Oscar trumps any other controversy over the Oscars. You can go back to the 70s and he was writing some of the best scores ever written for film. I'm sure I'd have to check to find the winners over the last four decades but everyone knows some of his scores. Maybe the Oscars need a system more like the NFL with the pro bowl. The current system is broken.
