not in the least bit surprised by this. you think that if any of the upcoming movies fail to meet this milestone would be considered failures? i've seen some pretty high grossing films in the past that were considered disappointments despite doing quite well,
Star wars was cool, but the more I thought about the Force Awakens, the more I was clear that besides some nasty plot holes, the old guard was needed less and less. The movie is strong enough to stand on its own merit with the new cast. This was a "careful" transition, when in fact it was not needed. The only old cast member needed was Luke to continue the story in its natural progression.
However, I digress. It's nice to see the SWEET film start strong.
