Variety: “Ex Machina” and “Straight Outta Compton” were among the nominees for the Producers Guild of America’s annual PGA Awards, joining Oscar contenders like “Spotlight,” “The Big Short” and “The Martian,” among others.
“Compton” became the highest-grossing film directed by a black filmmaker earlier this year when it topped $160 million in domestic box office receipts. The film also landed a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best performance by an ensemble in December, making a strong contender for best picture Oscar recognition.
