That probably won't matter considering that this should be a movie first, not a game. As long as the team understands the universe and the new characters they're to make, then a fresh start should serve new and old audiences alike well.

That's the nature of adaptation. Some things don't translate well to another medium because they shouldn't. That doesn't mean it can't broaden the scope of the source material, though.

All he need to do is watch gameplay footage of Assassins Creed on youtube and read up the story on Wikipedia
