Yes I know it's not a proper limerick but this is a family newspaper and that pretty much sums up the plot of Ron Howard's new boat-buster, based on Nathaniel Philbrick's non-fiction book of the same name, from 2000.
But is it non-fiction? Did the whale do it? The Nantucket whaler Essex was allegedly holed by a giant sperm whale in the western Pacific on November 20, 1820. The ship sank and 21 survivors took to the three remaining whaleboats. Only eight survived, but we have accounts from two.
