It was another quiet Labor Day weekend at the box office, as the top-grossing film failed to crack $10 million. Faith-based drama War Room won the three-day weekend with $9.4 million, knocking Straight Outta Compton from its three-week perch at the top. War Room, which was directed by Alex Kendrick, showed off a ton of strength at the box office with a second-weekend drop of just 18%. That suggests that the film will be more like Heaven Is For Real or Soul Surfer with strong legs, as opposed to the likes of Son of God or Left Behind. War Room has now grossed $24.7 million from a budget of just $3 million. It’s on par for around $40 million by the time it’s done.
