Fox Fall Pilot First Impressions: What to Expect From The Grinder, Minority Report, and More

TV.com:
The new fall TV season is upon us once again, and if you've perused our fall guide listing premiere dates and mini-descriptions of every new series, you're probably feeling a little overwhelmed by the number of possible additions to your already crowded viewing schedule. We've screened the inaugural episodes of nearly every new fall series and compiled multiple (and sometimes contradictory) opinions of each network newbie. Pilots will be pilots, of course, and lots of shows get better once they've had a chance to settle in. But for now, first impressions are all that matter.

Below, you'll find our take on which new Fox series are looking good, bad, average, and just plain ugly. Check back tomorrow for our rundown of NBC. If you're looking for our thoughts on ABC's new series, those can be found here. Meanwhile, our opinions of CBS's new crop are here.

Rupert Wyatt To Direct ‘The Exorcist’ Pilot; Jeff Blitz Set For ‘The Trail’

Deadline:
Rupert Wyatt(Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) is set to direct Fox’s drama pilot The Exorcist, a modern reinvention inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book. Written by Jeremy Slater, The Exorcist is described as a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil. Wyatt also helmed 2014 pic The Gambler.

Jeff Blitz has signed on to direct NBC pilot The Trail, a documentary-style procedural comedy from Jeff Astrof and Matt Miller. The Trail, whose title is a scrambled version of Trial, is a serialized comedy following a young big-city lawyer and his oddball defense team during a high profile murder trial in a small southern town.
