While it may not have directly fit well into an eight-episode TV format, the idea of telling a neo-noir tale - heavy on psychological exposition and light on actual justice - was a bold experiment. This wasn't going to work for all viewers, though if you'll recall Season 1's finale wasn't a big hit with some because Marty and Rust didn't get to peel the onion more.
