The Strain enjoyed a generally memorable return this week, even if this episode didn't do much to address the show's recurring problems. On the plus side, there was more insight into the conflict between the Ancients and the Master, a fun flashback sequence, a new status quo for Setrakian and the debut of an exciting new breed of Strigoi. On the down side, some of the human character drama fell flat, and the overall pacing and wow factor wasn't high enough to start the new season off on the right note. Still, there's enough buildup here to hope that Season 2 will have a stronger overall momentum than the first.
