IGN: What would happen if animals across the world decided to take back Earth from humanity? Therein lies the idea behind Zoo, CBS's new drama series based on the novel of the same name by James Patterson. Here, the network delivers a "What if...?" scenario that is at once intriguing and, without any style, completely middling. Not surprisingly, this summer offering tends toward the latter, although it isn't without a little bit of dumb, fun mystery.
The story follows Jackson Oz (Mad Men's James Wolk), an American zoologist who's currently a safari tour guide in Botswana, Africa. Soon, he and his partner Abraham Kenyatta (Game of Thrones' Nonso Anozie) get swept up in a mystery when they discover that packs of lions are behaving unusually and attacking human camp sites. Unbeknownst to them, this isn't an isolated incident. Around the same time in Los Angeles, two more lions escape the nearby zoo and go on a killing spree downtown. (And while it's not explicitly shown, this kind of thing is also maybe supposed to be happening elsewhere in the world.)
