'Chappie' Blu-ray Review | The Reel Roundup

TRR: A blend of white-knuckle action, offbeat humor and thought-provoking concepts, Chappie marks writer/director Neill Blomkamp's third foray into the down-and-dirty dystopian near-future he established in his previous films, District 9 and Elysium. Unlike those movies, however, its central character isn't a man, but rather a badly-damaged police droid who's given a second chance as an unlikely apprentice to a gang of criminals. Reborn as Chappie (Sharlto Copley), the artificially intelligent, child-like robot must quickly acclimate to life in the gritty world that is 2016 Johannesburg. But with his own body, not to mention hostile forces both robotic and human working against him, that will prove easier said than done. A true blockbuster with brains, Chappie is a must-see for fans of intelligent sci-fi thrillers; and it's made even better by the flawless audiovisual presentation and numerous extras it receives on Blu-ray.
