Apparently Asa Butterfield Is No Longer In The Running To Play Spider-Man

CBM

Well, here's a surprise! We had heard that Butterfield (Ender's Game) was all-but guaranteed to land the role of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War and beyond, but new info suggests that it's only Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer, and Matthew Lintz left in the running.

Spider-man was 15 when he was first bitten in th comics and officially became Sipdey so it makes sense to cast an actual 15 year old instead of a 35 year old playing a 15 year old which always looks weird. Kinda strange how Marvel says this won't be an origin story but every move they've made thus far shows that this will be a more origin-ish Peter than we've ever seen before. If I had to choose out of the four though, Asa would have been my choice, so damn.

What bugs me now is that in these Marvel movies, every superhero is the funny guy. They turned Iron man, Thor, Captain America and Star lord, all serious comic characters into comic reliefs. Spider-Man is gonna have to act extra ridiculous to be the funny guy of the group. :I

Having an actual 15 year old does not translate well on screen. Reading the comics and building that image up in your head to something you can actually bare is not something you can do on the silver screen.

The reason why adults like the Marvel films or superhero films in general is because they usually have old enough actors to give off the impression that the film/show feels and looks mature enough. Get some really young actor who, compared to the other, more seasoned actors, can't act well will just make the film seem "childish".

Nobody wants to see those actors playing Spiderman. They should stop worrying about how long they are going to have him around and just enjoy a decent actor even if they are nearly too old.

The only thing these actors have is how young they are....Peter Parker wise...well there's nothing there. They don't seem right for the role at all. It feels like they are being picked because of their age not if they can play the part.

Of all the rumoured actors the only one I could bare, despite still thinking he's not a good choice, is Dylan O Brien

"Having an actual 15 year old does not translate well on screen"

Gods and giant green monster translate well. Don't tell me this is where suspension of disbelief crosses the line lol. And I'm pretty sure adults like the Marvel flicks because they are family friendly. Go into the theatre with the family and kill a few hours watching a fun blockbuster always sounds appealing. False levels of maturity has nothing to do with it. I was against the whole young thing at first but I am becoming more and more open to it, depending on who they get of course.

"Get some really young actor who, compared to the other, more seasoned actors, can't act well will just make the film seem "childish"."

Like I said. It all depends on who they get. If the kid can act, would that solve the problem for you?

"It feels like they are being picked because of their age not if they can play the part."

Wut? Lol. That's like saying all they were looking for when casting Falcon was 'black man with goatee.' They are auditioning young teens, yes. But that's not to say they aren't looking for someone who can also embody Peter's traits. At this point in time neither of us can possibly know what these actors are doing behind the scenes.

As an adult without kids, I highly doubt I will have any interest in paying to go see a 15 year old spiderkid. I'd half expect him to T-bag his enemies for crying out loud. Maybe if they were able to cast someone really good, I'd reconsider but seeing how Marvel will be going for as wide appeal as possible, most 15 year olds just don't have the acting range to carry such a big movie on their shoulders.

you argue about keeping the original concept intact all the time and now you are arguing about an actor portraying his real age?

there are actors who can act that are not yet adults. get over it. they want to re-introduce the spiderman films starting when he was young, so of course it makes perfect sense to get an actor who also looks that age.

-Foxtrot3231d ago

Because its Marvel and they've went too far to introduce Spiderman at his real age.

I would continue but since I know what your like, especially when you were called out on it on N4G. I think I'll leave it

"Because its Marvel and they've went too far to introduce Spiderman at his real age."

went too far, according to who, you? the comic books start with him as a teenager so why can't they make a movie starting from there too? oh wait, they can. nevermind, i forgot who i was debating with, someone who sees the dark and never the light.

called out for what, that you constantly contract yourself?
