EB: "A large amount of people did not like the violence at the end of Man of Steel. The carnage at the hands of the Superman and Zod was too much for some and they argued that Superman would never allow something like that to happen, much less to people in his own city. This sentiment was shared
by Joss Whedon and is much of the reason why The Avengers spend so much time dealing with saving people in Age of Ultron; which is a waste."

Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
I always thought that criticism towards MoS was a little odd - from the beginning scenes it is established that this is going to be a dark movie. For pete's sake, they wipe out a whole civilization in the opening minutes!
I think peoples hatred of this movie mostly comes from the total lack of levity in the movie in general. It does feel like something is missing but we must remember that this is only one specific take on the character. There are plenty of superman stories that lack levity, but when we see a movie based on a character we kind of expect it to be a summation of all that characters traits.
The problem with Age of Ultron was not the fact they wanted to save everyone, it's the fact Joss wrote the whole big battle in the end within a well populated city.
<SPOILERS>
I mean if I was him I would of just done it so they managed to get everyone out of the city before it was lifted up into the air. Save a few stranded, left behind people while it's airborne and that's it...fight off Ultrons army
I thought it was the whole point of the scene where it showed Scarlet Witch using her powers on people within the city to get up and get out of the city.
The beginning would focus on evacuating the city and then you can have the big fight without everyone getting in the way. This would create more action scenes for the characters and even add in more development. Maybe some more scenes with Ultron.
hell no
In my opinion Guardians of the Galaxy was better than both Avenger movies & the second Avenger movie was disappointing over all, so don't go & compare Avengers with Man of Steel because MoS was by far superior & more enjoyable to watch, they had all the budget in the world & enough time to deliver an awesome movie that will blow the mind of the fans & in the end what they did was below average with non-existent story, boring plot & way too many characters that ruin the pace of the movie.
Spoilers.
I think the problem with it isn't the fact that they saved everybody, it's the fact the heroes themselves were doing the grunt work.
In MoS there was a reason for the death and the problems. Superman needed to see it first hand, in my opinion, and have a reason to prevent it in the future. The way those scenes played out fit the movie well. He was learning, doing everything he can, and just couldn't do enough.
In Avengers everything felt like it was coincidental. Agents just so happen to show up at the right time, but they bring no agents to help get people off? So the heroes just so happen to do it in time, right before they just so happen to finish off Ultron, etc... If it were me, I'd have the heroes struggling, then Agents come in to help and THEY are the ones that get civilians off. Maybe you have Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Quicksilver help, but the others go focus on Ultron. Then all you need is a quick shot of Agents flooding in taking civilians off and you can return to to fight. Sometime mid battle have that finish and those 3 join the battle, now the only people at risk is the surrounding area.
If you really want to shove the "we can't hurt anyone" card up there, then you should have the heroes form a backup plan. Especially if they are blowing up cities.
