CE: If John Carpenter made a PSA for teenage abstinence, you would have It Follows, the second feature from writer/director David Robert Mitchell. In it, Maika Monroe plays a teenage suburbanite named Jay, whose decision to sleep with her new boyfriend is met with dire repercussions. No, she doesn't get pregnant or contract an STD. In fact, that would almost be preferable. Instead, she finds herself on the receiving end of a sexually-transmitted hex and is soon forced to outrun a mysterious, supernatural assailant. As bizarre as that sounds, the concept actually works. Accompanied by a grinding synth score, this horror movie evokes the atmosphere of Carpenter's early work, even though it doesn't quite live up to the promise of its intense and disturbing opening sequence. Still, Monroe is more than just your average scream queen, and after seeing It Follows, moviegoers may never look at sex the same way again.
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
Rebel Moon Part 2 Review: This movie doesn't feel anything new or worth remembering, which is a shame.
