Above all, movies are an investment. Nobody funds a movie out of the sheer kindness of their hearts without expecting something in return, regardless of artistic integrity. You don’t give away millions of dollars to a product you don’t believe will succeed, after all. Yes, the true, inarguable intention of any motion picture is to make money – a notion that peeves those who like to think of cinema as “pure artistry.” Unfortunately, cinema is still a business.
