WC: This weekend, the world will once more turn its attention towards a committee of mostly white, mostly over 60 men with the power to turn great films into legendary (or notorious) ones. They will get something wrong – that much is assured – but somewhere among the inevitable allegations of bigotry and bias, they’ll also acknowledge that some performances and films genuinely do deserve to be classed as “better”.
