I'd like to think Fifty Shades of Grey knows exactly what it is -- corny slash fic come to life -- and if that's the case it's almost admirable in its attempt at spectacle. (The two leads are also nice.) Unfortunately, Sam Taylor-Johnson's movie adaptation gets so caught up in the intrigue and melodrama that it never really finds its groove. Even the film's raw sex appeal is lacking, which just leaves a poorly plotted story and laughable dialogue.
