The Last of Us Movie to Have ‘Some Big Changes’

While we still don’t have confirmation that Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) will play Ellie in The Last of Us movie, the game’s director and writer of the film script, Neil Druckmann, revealed in an interview with Game Informer (via Gamespot) that a second draft has been completed. In addition, he said a table read of The Last of Us script with “a bunch of actors” recently took place.

I don't see why he needs changes, Neil is in a very special place since he actually wrote the game. Any time you get a Hollywood Video Game film they always end up being bad because the film changes things when they don't really need to. Straying away from the source material has never worked why not go the opposite way for once.

Lets be honest as people who have played the game, this film isn't for us, it's for a different audience, the people who haven't played the game so as a gamer and a fan of the game I wouldn't really care if I watched a video game film which was a carbon copy of the game. Long as it's good then that's all I care about. As I've said I couldn't complain because it's not for me as a gamer who's already played the games, it's for those who haven't.

I mean with the Last of Us if you condensed the game and removed the gameplay, unnecessary small story points which are only there to advance the gameplay and maybe one of two scenes which you need to remove for time constraints then it would still work.

For example at the beginning of the game when you are trying to get to Robert with Tess, instead of them not getting through the gate because of the Fireflies car explosion have them get through in the film with the explosion happening behind them, not in front. This way they would get to Robert quicker. Small things like that would help advance the film along quicker, you are cutting corners but the plot is still in tact.

I always think the older the game, the more freedom you have. Resident Evil could of been fantastic if they stuck with the story in the first game. A special police team going inside a massive mansion and surviving a zombie attack...simple yet it would work.

I'm a little ticked off Sony allowed Neil to write the Last of Us film but they've never gotten Amy Hennig to write the Uncharted one. Condense Uncharted down and keep most of the dialogue in would work.

He's actually said the Uncharted movie script is the second thing he's working on with The last of us coming after UC4 is complete.

“When I’m in the office, it’s all Uncharted 4 all the time,” he said. “When I should be sleeping, it’s the Uncharted movie….Yeah, sorry, The Last of Us movie.”

I just took that as a joke like he's working so much on the new Uncharted game he "accidentally" said it to show how much he's working on it.

Best thing they can do is hire Amy to do a condensed draft of Drakes Fortune while Neil does the Last of Us script.

I'm looking forward to the movie. I loved the game and can't wait to see how they pull this off. I'm glad that they're making big changes too, because it'll give the people who have played the game a reason to want to watch the movie. Plus, you all can't deny how awesome it'll be to see the infected perfectly rendered.

Obviously. They need to make changes to make it work and to make it worth watching. I just hope they keep the ending.
