Still, it’s difficult to remember the last time the Academy got it so wrong at just the nominations stage. With such a great set of 2014 contenders to choose from, it’s hard to believe that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) managed to get it so wrong in so many categories for 2015. Where prestige pics like The Theory of Everything and American Sniper rule, other acclaimed dramas are inexplicably largely ignored (Gone Girl) or shut out altogether (A Most Violent Year).
