Why Drake Bell Should Be The Live-Action Spider-Man

CB: We mentioned this briefly about a week ago, but there's a part of us that really can't shake the idea of Ultimate Spider-Man voice actor Drake Bell as Peter Parker on the big screen.

It's rare that a voice actor seems like such an ideal candidate to transition into live action, and when it happens -- like with Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern or C.C.H. Pounder as Amanda Waller -- it tends to get fans talking.

The only problem I have is that he did that stupid superhero movie and it was just all around terrible. It's hard to get that out of my head.

Otherwise he would be good, and if we absolutely must lose Andrew, then I'd be fine with Drake doing it. He does a good job as voice over in the cartoon.

With that face NO! he can't play Peter Parker not in hell we had already one super-ugly Peter Parker enough is enough Peter is not some short ugly thing like Tobey Maguire & this Bell guy find a young nice looking guy close to 1.80 meter that can play a smart geeky guy who say nice jokes here & there why is that so hard to do is Hollywood lacking so much on good young actors? it boggles my mind that they can't do that seriously...

strangeaeon3410d ago

Sorry but plenty of women would disagree on Toby McGuire being ugly. Also Peter Parker isn't some nerdy super model, good looking yes, but not some stud.

See that was my problem with Andrew....way too good looking to be Peter, the guy looks like an ex model at times.

Dannycr3409d ago

@-Foxtrot

Why? If you look at the 90's Spiderman Cartoon, that Peter Parker was always "good looking" and didn't look all that nerdy.

In fact, Andrew Garfield looks way nerdier than the 90's cartoon Peter.

Baka-akaB3409d ago

Still in all eras he was drawn as a stud after the bit .

Personally i dont find tobey ugly , even if i disagree with his harcuts and wardrobes in the movies . i feel it's a lousy way to convey "nerd" , short of actually acting it .

Besides where his Spiderman's trademark humour ? When its so absent in the first trilogy , i can't agree that Tobey was a proper Spiderman and Parker . Even if he was doing what's asked probably

Yeah that would be interesting but I doubt it would happen.

If I must say I do have an enormous respect for voice acting, it is such an underrated skill. However, it is vastly different than traditional acting, it doesn't necessarily mean a person should deserve more consideration for a role. That being said I do like the article's take on spidey - he should be more of a geek. I don't think any of the movies really nailed this aspect of the character.

also, would it be that hard to include a pic of the person in question?

Drake Bell isn't primarily a voice actor. He's had live action roles and is qualified enough for the role. More than Garfield.

just-joe3409d ago

But Garfield doesn't sound like a surfer when he speaks.

sinspirit3409d ago (Edited 3409d ago )

More than Garfield?

How in his acting career is he more qualified than Garfield? And, I fail to see how Drake looks more like a Peter Parker. Garfield looks just like him. Peter Parker is a "geek" but not bad looking. When he loses the glasses and gains muscle he's supposed to look like that.

I'm not sure if everyone missed every time Spider-Man geeked out in the two movies. Of course, he didn't have many opportunities fighting crime and all. He talks as if he knows it. He fits the bill. He's skinny as Peter Parker, and then when he becomes Spider-Man he is actually clearly in shape for it.

I'm not sure how anyone can compare his high-toned generic children oriented comic voice to Garfield professional acting, believable voice, emotion, and gestures. I'm not saying Drake is a bad actor. But, the examples present are not equal at all.

I mean, Tobey was an alright Spider-Man, but he was a little chubby, had few emotions portrayed in similar ways, and the movie dialogue wasn't really too great and was too romanticized to begin with. Drake is a little too short and stocky. Garfield is tall, and a clearly justified better actor from his experience. Drake had a huge TV show and a huge open door to professional acting after the sitcom. Garfield notably earned a bigger spotlight. Whether you like him or not. I don't like some other actors, but I won't deny they are good at what they do.

At this point I don't care. Most likely we will get someone we don't like and then we will grow to like him a little.
