Russo Bros. Offered To Produce Sony's Spider-Man Films; Will Direct Infinity War

CBM

The real juicy stuff are from the discussions between Sony Entertainment Chairman Amy Pascal and the Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo that took place last month. The Russo brothers begin their email to Pascal with, "A pity that negotiations with Marvel did not work." They're referring to the proposed deal with Marvel Studios that would have brought Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe by giving him a cameo in Captain America: Civil War. They then let Pascal know that they will be directing Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, but that obligation won't prevent them from directing The Gray Man beforehand for Sony. Then on November 17, Joe Russo sent Pascal an email offering to have him and his brother produce Sony's Spider-Man films through their newly-formed production company, Bullitt. He acknowledges that a "difficult conversation" would have to take place with current Spider-Man producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad,...

They did a great job directing CA:Winter Soldier, they made Captain America one of my favorite super-hero. i hope Joss Whedon will be writing for Infinity War, The Avengers writing was perfect, and Age of Ultron seems to be good.

Crazay3415d ago

That's a good point. Could be that he decided he was done partly because of that.

Winter Soldier was done well. Looking forward to what the Russo Bros do next.

Wow, that's some news right there. Who would've thought they'd become on the A-list just a year ago. I'd love to see Spider-man done right, but reboot it minus another origin story. Everyone knows who Spider-man is already, but there's time to put him into Civil War before they begin filming.

You would of thought Joss would of directed the last films and complete a trilogy of Avenger films

Stringerbell3415d ago

Exactly - the most important Marvel film, Joss should be doing it. But the Winter Soldier was awesome and clearly these guys do not how to direct an action film so its not all that bad.

-Foxtrot3415d ago (Edited 3415d ago )

The thing even though the Winter Soldier was awesome it was very grounded compared to what we are going to see in the Infinity War, massive focus on Sci-Fi and mystical cosmic objects.

I would of preferred James Gunn if that was the case

But it's silly as Joss has built these stories up over two films and it's lead to the Infinity Wars and now he's not doing it....it's silly in my opinion

Crazay3415d ago

I'm surprised by that revellation as well. I wonder if joss wants to tackle something new in the universe or something more personal to himself.

-Foxtrot3415d ago

I wonder if it's how they treat Edgar Wright, he was a big supporter of him and was disappointed when he "left".

Hopefully he'll still have an input in this, I would like him to direct Captain Marvel.

Amuro3415d ago (Edited 3415d ago )

I'm not a fan of Joss, so I'm glad he's going out. Didn't like the formulaic first part of Avengers nor how he handles characters like Black Widow making her look more like a joke rather than a strong/independent woman.

They are on a roll with these Marvel movies.
