John Boyega Shut Down Racist 'Star Wars' Haters With Four Simple Words

John Boyega has been on a lot of people’s minds ever since the new “Star Wars” trailer dropped. But some of the attention on the “Attack The Block” actor turned “Star Wars:The Force Awakens” stormtrooper has been negative, due to the fact that a few petty, racist troll types on YouTube are unhappy that a black man was donning the aforementioned trooper suit.

"Wtf there can't be a black stormtrooper since they are all cloned after Jango Fett...."

Imperial stormtroopers were not cloned after Fett, at least by the time Ep. IV came. Clone Wars troopers would've been too old by then, seeing as there aging rate is way increased to a normal person, not to mention is is blatantly stated in Ep. IV that stormtroopers are normal people that enlisted in the Imperial army. Luke wanted to enlist when he got off the farm.

I think Luke wanted to join the Imperial Academy more specifically, which related to the Imperial Navy and Tie Fighter corps, not the Stormtroopers.

In either case, the Empire obviously recruited from general populations from year, as its own human officers prove. It's little wonder that its stormtroopers would be diverse in every sense given with the risk that Jango's clone DNA would bring to saboteurs for extended use.

And John Boyega's just awesome, so there's that.

RetrospectRealm3434d ago

Either way, by Episode IV, no Fett clones were stormtroopers. They age super quick and would all be dead. Clone #99 from Clone Wars was an old dude and he had only been around for like 10 years.

I believe the Kamino facility was destroyed too during Order 66.

Ogygian3433d ago

This is true.

I'm not pleased with the inflammatory and slanderous article title however; I expect a lot of the people complaining just aren't that knowledgeable about Star Wars, and thus think of this as a continuity problem.

Obviously some people are angry out of racism, but a lot are probably irritated because they do not realise that normal people were, as you say, enlisted in the Imperial Army.

OSIRUSSS3434d ago

Some of the Stormtroopers were cloned from Django!

Lord_Sloth3433d ago

No, the CLONE Troopers were cloned from Jango but with Jango dead that's no longer an option. The Empire's Storm Troopers were regular people who enlisted to serve the Empire.

Wow, this is incredible ! The amount of opinions flying around the internet is beyond ridiculous ...

I need to put this in context...

The media are playing it like the issue is its a "Black" guy.... The SW fans are looking at lore saying its not possible due to clones....

Im confused ..... The movie hasn't even screened, so that puts the SW lore to be confirmed, however, I hope its not people that are angry because they're racist?

If its the later, Im more than upset that in this day and age that people still have such a "Bogan" approach to anothers ethnicity.

hazelamy3434d ago

i looked at the twitter of the idiot they quoted, and yeah, it's totally because he's racist.

and he's not the only racist idiot out there.

Rhythmattic3434d ago

Idiots are stupid.
Racists are putrid.

annoyedgamer3433d ago

The article is cherry picking trying to push an agenda. I am also confused and want answers but still do not have one because all I am reading is "youse raccissst cuz cuz he be black u no likes black peoplez racist"...

Amuro3434d ago (Edited 3434d ago )

because of the pre-quels I thought all storm troopers were all clones too. And I fail to see how those comments are "racist".

RetrospectRealm3433d ago

Clones would get old and useless in 20 years.

Anthotis3433d ago

Get used to it = shoe horning black people into roles not meant for them, even if they aren't displacing evil white people(in this instance a Maori).

Stringerbell3433d ago

Not meant for them?

After the failed uprising on Kamino in 12 BBY, Emperor Palpatine came to the conclusion that an army of clone soldiers was far too susceptible to corruption. Thus, he expanded the Stormtrooper Corps to include clones that were created from a variety of genetic templates, effectively marginalizing Jango Fett's progeny into a minority status.[13] In addition to the massive influx of new clone sources, the Corps began recruiting real Human beings to serve in the ranks as enlisted stormtroopers.

In short anyone can be a Storm Trooper.

Bathyj3433d ago (Edited 3433d ago )

Even me?

Na, couldnt happen. I shoot too well. And I'm kind of tall for a Storm Trooper.

Stringerbell3433d ago (Edited 3433d ago )

@Bathyj

Ehh ever since Endor, the benefits and pay grade have taken a major hit. Though I do hear the new galactic senate is hiring for security. Easy job and you get all the holidays off!

freshslicepizza3433d ago

isn't the flame dude in fantastic four being played by a african american actor? i fully support anyone capable of the part but you also have to consider if ethnic background actually plays a part in trying to portray your not racist if your the casting director.

have we now reached a point where you feel you have to cover your bases or else someone is going to question who you are casting? its funny because lando calrissian was played by billy dee williams and i never even cared about if he was black or white. now everything is such a big deal.
