If there’s one thing in the world of cinema that movie makers have been struggling to get right ever since the era of silent films, it’s the portrayal of Bram Stoker’s original lord of darkness, Dracula. Even more modern attempts have left much to be desired, from the mildly entertaining yet still off-the-mark presentations (NBC’s Dracula mini-series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) to the absolute so-bad-it’s-still-bad disasters (Van Helsing, Blade Trinity). However, if the film industry is anything, it’s persistent. The latest attempt to bring the king of blood suckers to the silver screen, Dracula Untold, goes far into the past, telling a reimagined origin story that centers around real life historical figure Vlad the Impaler (off of whom Stoker based the character of Dracula). But how well does Dracula Untold stack up against the original tale?
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
