Why Spider-Man Shouldn’t Cross Over With The Avengers

There is currently a rumour going round that Sony’s Spider-Man as seen in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to be crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A lot of fans have been asking for this for a while now. Other than the rights issue, which is apparently being worked around, there are other reasons why Sony’s Spider-Man should not cross over to the MCU

Needs some sort tags for Spider-Man and Avengers, but I'm not sure which, so I'll leave it to the mods.

Same with your other article too: http://filmwatch.com/news/1...

Too late in my opinion

Take the battle of New York for example in the Avengers, for Spiderman to be New Yorks most loved Superhero he sure took a back seat in the battle.

SHIELD has never once mentioned him, not even a reference

No Spiderman references like Oscorp Industries and vice versa for Spiderman like Stark Industries.

Then you have the fact at the end of the Avengers people seem surprised with the fact they now have Superheros, well wouldn't New Yorkers know of Spiderman. Stan Lee's cameo "Superheros in New York...Gimmie a break"

Any comic book fan can find reasoning for this.

Battle in new york. So what about Captain A destroying a city and battling Shield, and the only other hero that showed up was Black Widow? No Iron Man?

Guardians of the Galaxy travels the whole universe and fights the upcoming Avengers villain, yet absolutely no meeting or mention of Asgard?

Shield is almost never mentioned in Spider-Man comics, I have years worth of them and he never talks about Shield at all. Even the Venom books hardly mention Shield, it's the military instead. He will talk Avengers though, and the new Venom mentioned Shield early on.

Spider-Man could have appeared after Avengers took place. That timeline in the Spider-Man movies is not entirely clear, thus could be dynamically changed. They could also be surprised of those hero's beyond Spider-Man. Another excuse is the papers were not attacking Spider-Man yet, they just barely started mentioning him. (Also as the article suggest, what the hell was New York building all over the city during the first movie? Perhaps Avengers just destroyed it?)

It's somewhat simplistic changes, they just need to ground them in reality and it will be acceptable.

No...some comic book fans can clutch at straws. I'm one of those grounded ones.

" So what about Captain A destroying a city and battling Shield, and the only other hero that showed up was Black Widow? No Iron Man? "

We don't know if that did have people talking, the next movie after the Winter Soldier was Guardians of the Galaxy.

"and the only other hero that showed up was Black Widow? No Iron Man?"

Apparently Hawkeye was cut, Thor wasn't on Earth, Bruce Banner most likely staying away from SHIELD and Stark...well after Iron Man 3 you'll know why.

"Guardians of the Galaxy travels the whole universe and fights the upcoming Avengers villain, yet absolutely no meeting or mention of Asgard"

It's a massive Galaxy, they had some many other references, why would they need to talk about Asgard unless they were part of the story. New York being where Spiderman roams around and then having the battle of New York in New York is not the same as "Oh but in this whole wide Galaxy and other realms why didn't they talk about this ONE places out of millions.

"Shield is almost never mentioned in Spider-Man comics, I have years worth of them and he never talks about Shield at all. Even the"

Yeah but when you have a cinematic universe just consisting of the Avengers and some Marvel characters. No F4, no X-Men, no Spiderman it would be a little easier to add other references in that they share the same world if they were actually a part of it. The comics is probably due to them having so much on and wanting to keep the series separate from the rest.

At the end of the day if they include him now it's going to be very forced.

They may aswell leave it alone and let the franchises do their own things. If they were going to cross over they may aswell start a new Spiderman franchise for Marvels universe.

one little inaccuracy there, Thor was on earth when Cap went against Shield, The Dark World is set before the Winter Soldier.
and at the end of TDW, Thor stayed on earth.
though he was probably off with Jane Foster somewhere.

Soldierone3485d ago

@Foxtrot, you make no sense. You won't accept the excuses or reasoning for Spider-Man, then you turn around and make excuses for Marvels own films?

Going through your excuses, they are just as broken as the Spider-Man ones, yet you accept those.

calis3485d ago

don't bother debating him on it. Inconsistencies only matter if it suits his argument.

Indeed. They had their chance and its gone.

I don't agree with Sony selling rights to Spider-Man. Beyond a few surprise hits in recent years, the only franchise Sony Pictures has that is dependable is Spider-Man. Plus on a bad day Spider-Man still does better than almost every stand alone Marvel film.

I think a crossover would be insane for fans. Tying the pieces together and bring purpose to the past two films, it would be healthy for both. Plus Marvel needs to spark a fire to fend off Justice League, what better way to do it?

Plus facing facts, eventually Marvel will get rights back to Spider-Man so why not keep him healthy until that time comes? Instead of purposely letting Sony run it into the ground?

lol people are actually getting upset with spiderman coming over to Marvel (Disney) due to him not showing up in the big new york fight? and other reasons? damn

i understand most of the views but its nitpicking at best

they are just now saying "gifted" for mutants on shield and Disney.

Dr.Strange is in new york why didnt he get in the fight? lol nitpick

Soldierone3485d ago

I don't understand it either. At first people were dying to get Spider-Man in Avengers, but it was just them crying for Marvel. Sony finally opens up and may allow it and "omg....it won't work!!!" Then why the hell were you guys crying for it two seconds ago?

It's a very easy and simple bridge, but fans are going to nitpick it to death just to nitpick.

acemonkey3485d ago

alot of heroies should have helped in new york lol

but still everybody is like it will never happen marvel wont get rights back to the characters and now that they are people are like nope not going to work bc why? u know Fox/Sony origins of that character? bc of an fight that happen and one wasnt in it? lol spiderman isnt really apart of avengers he helps them when they are in need... if you really want get into Hulk never likes being an avengers and leaves after the 6th issue or something and comes back once in awhile..but in the movies so far he seems like part of the family

StarWarsFan3485d ago

They should just leave him out of it. I think Sony needs to focus on setting the Spider-Man franchise on the right path rather than relying on mixing Spidey with other characters to boost his credits. Everyone gives Spider-Man 3 a hard time, but it at least closed off a trilogy. But since The Amazing Spider-Man, it seems like the studio has no clear direction for the movies.

focus on spiderman their talking about rebooting it... the venom vs carnage movie is almost trashed... they want to recast spiderman lol their doing a good job
