Gotham Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Batman Since Joel Schumacher

BAD

The new Batman-without-Batman show is silly, broad and too full of shitty winks to ever be enjoyed.

During the cold open of last night’s Gotham I simply threw up my hands and quit. What even IS this show, where a crooked banker gets attached to a weather balloon and then fatally floated into the heavens? What kind of a tone is this mishmash of a show going for?

The whole thing is totally pointless and the sooner it's cancelled the better chance of a good show replacing it. I would of rather had an old series coming back for a short film or more episodes like FRINGE.

It's basically doing what Arrow has done (and possibly the Flash) because it's made with the mainstream audience in mind it's screwing around with the source material and doing whatever they want with it, except respect it.

Can you honestly believe what this show would of been like if they stuck with their original idea about it just being about Bullock and Gordon...look how many villains they are using at the minute and other Batman references.

I honestly haven't seen a single minute of the show. I opted to wait and see how it does up until the mid season break before trying it out because I wasn't so sure that it was going to make it through a full season.

I think it will make it through the full season because it's Batman related. If this wasn't Batman then I could safely say it wouldn't even make it to the end of season 1.

In my opinion that's why people are giving it the benefit of the doubt and rating it so high. I mean if this wasn't Batman related it would of failed and be criticized to death. They wouldn't of been able to use all those Batman references and future villains in the first episode would they and without that would would they of had. The writers would of had to create new characters from scratch like every other new show but I don't see why with people like Poison Ivy they've got to mess around and do things like Ivy Pepper.

I actually like this show, and feel it is getting better with each episode. Penguin and Jim Gordon make it worth watching imo, and it makes me laugh in parts too. I don't like the parts with Bruce and Selina, I feel it's kinda weird, but the point of the whole show is to explain how all the big bad guys came to be. They weren't a reaction to Batman's existence, they already existed.

Being Fox, I'm doing the same thing. I'll wait to see if it makes it before I give it a go. Nothing more annoying than getting engaged in a show and Fox cancels it out of nowhere....

Crazay3489d ago

See I figure that by that time, it should be a strong enough sampling of the show and the ratings to have an idea of whether or not I think it's going to be picked up. At least if they know it going to end, they can work towards the closure of the series (i know Fox has issue with closure). I don't want to start using my time to watch something to only have it become unfinished. been burned like that far too often.

I'm looking at you Carnivale, Jericho, The 4400 and Terminator: SCC.

alycakes3488d ago

Don't forget Firefly on that list. They do have a tendency to cancel shows at the drop of a hat without any type of closure.

I don't agree with all that you're saying. The show certainly isn't that bad, it sets an interesting tone and visually I believe it's quite good. What the heck are you saying with "their original idea"? Lol, did you honestly think for even a second that they did not intend to use this as an origin story of sorts? THIS WAS their original idea.

Having watched the first 3 episodes I can say that there's a lot of things that are ridiculous: the constant nods to future villains, little changes to plot/known characters, things like that. But it is certainly not a bad show, a lot better than the usual cop drama we get 24/7. If this didn't have anything Batman related besides Gotham, Gordon and Bullock, THAT'S when it would turn shit. It would just be like anything else. I only wish they would have created a show around the Gotham Central comics, but that's beside the point.

So far I can only complain about "little" things, such as placing known characters in there just so they can hint their future alter-egos (like Poison Ivy, that was really unnecessary) and having "Catgirl" witness the murder of the Waynes, that didn't seem right. But am I gonna go on a tantrum because of that? Of course not. Is the show better off cancelled just because of that? Lol, right ... I mean, people need to understand just because there's a source material it doesn't mean they can't change bits here and there, no matter how good the source was/is. Wanna know why? Because otherwise it would just be the same. f*cking. thing.

(PS: Balloonman was stupid, I'll give you that ... but if anything that proves creating new characters isn't a good route. And for example, although unnecessary, Fish Mooney was a great invention so far, she adds variety to the organized crime and most importantly I don't know what they'll do with her, because I never knew her!)

I enjoy the show for what it is, it does feel unecessary to have a Batman show without Batman yes, but its no way in hell comparable to Forever and Robin.

StarWarsFan3488d ago

I quite enjoy the show so far. I think it should focus more on the solving of cases than the winks and nods to references and characters, but I feel it's good so far. It's entertaining. I don't understand why people complain about it being a Batman show without Batman. It's not a Batman show. It's from the Batman universe. And let's not pretend like The Dark Knight Rises had a whole lot of Batman either :P

SouthClaw3488d ago

I really like it and it has some amazing actors. I hope it has a long enough run to have some great stories.

I quite like that it is not all based around Batman. We have had enough Batman centered shows/movies. There are other rich characters in the Batman universe so it would be good to see how they pan out.

I feel its got a good mix of Nolanverse and Comicverse.

WizzroSupreme3488d ago

Can't wait 'til the season 1 cliffhanger where Gordon turns on the Bat-signal and waits 20 years while the show's canceled. And Harvey just stands there going "That's how the cookie crumbles, but I'm eat'in it too." while eating a cookie he stole off a girl scout.

That's it. Fade to black.
