Gone Girl (2014) Review | FilmGamesEtc

It was only two years ago, during the summer of 2012, that Gone Girl, a new mystery/thriller novel from author Gillian Flynn, was first published. An odd fact to consider for sure, since most books, even the popular ones, normally sit around for a good while before someone decides to adapt them into a film. Clearly there was something special about Gone Girl since it wasn’t long before 20th Century Fox secured a deal with Flynn to develop a screenplay adaptation and signed on director David Fincher (of Fight Club and The Social Network fame) to helm the project. With Fincher occupying the director’s chair and an all-star cast that includes Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris, Gone Girl certainly has the odds stacked in its favor. But just how well does Flynn’s engrossing tale of mystery (and possible murder) transfer to the silver screen?
