IGN The Bridge: "Jubilex" Review

IGN:
Hey, guys. Fowler here, stepping in to review the Season 2 finale of FX's The Bridge. Some background. I did not review The Bridge for IGN during Season 1. I also did not really enjoy Season 1. At least not the "serial killer revenge" plot which took up the bulk of the time. And yes, I know that the series was mirroring the events from the Danish-Swedish show it's based on. But watching Marco, a character we hardly knew at that point, both ruin his own marriage via a random adulterous moment and then have his life ruined by a horror movie-style psycho made for a jumbled, unsatisfying show.

Season 2 however, which producer Elwood Reid purposefully distanced from the foreign series in order to do his own thing, was markedly better. It had just a really great, overall feel with a much more sprawling story involving what felt like a richer tapestry of characters. Plus, for a while the focus was on Matthew Lillard and Emily Rios' reporter characters and that really helped amp up the over-arching government conspiracy angle. It wasn't The Wire, but the show was reaching for a larger overview of the politics, police, and crooks. And it didn't lose its sinister sting either, thanks to Franka Potente's Eleanor Nacht and Ramón Franco's returning Fausto Galvan.

Wow, I wasn't sure how they were going to get so much done in such a short time but most of it happened. The only thing was that ex-captain Robles left and now no one knows where he went so he may get away with everything he did. It was such a good feeling when Marco finally caught Fausto and Sonya caught Eleanor.
