Justin Lin Eyed To Direct ‘True Detective’

The pieces on the anticipated second season of HBO’s drama series True Detective are slowly coming together, and creator Nic Pizzolatto will likely be the only key player to return for Season 2. I have learned that The Fast And The Furious‘ Justin Lin is in talks to direct at least the first two episodes of the upcoming season. He would succeed Cary Fukunaga, who helmed and executive produced all eight episodes from Season 1 and just won the best director for a drama series Emmy for his work. As has been the case with anything related to Season 2 of True Detective, HBO declined comment. No cast members or plot for next season have been confirmed, but Colin Ferrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn are expected to be in the cast. Search is underway for a female lead. According to circulated breakdowns, the second cycle of True Detective will be set in California and focus on the investigation of a corrupt city manager who gets murdered amidst a potential groundbreaking transportation deal. The director switch on True Detective is a little surprising given the praise for Fukunaga‘s work, but as the show moves locations from Louisiana to California, it will likely be going for a new look. Additionally, Fukunaga has feature commitments. He remains an executive producer for Season 2. On the TV side, CAA-repped Lin is executive producing new CBS series Scorpion, whose pilot he directed.

He's a great director. I wouldn't mind if he did the whole season.
