Why DC's Serious 'Superman v. Batman' May Give Marvel The Big-Screen Edge

HitFix

"No jokes."

Last week was about the fifth time I've heard that there is a mandate at Warner Bros. regarding any of the DC superhero films in development, and it's very simple and direct and to the point.

"No jokes."

Please. That couldn't sound any more like it was made up by a Marvel fanboy if it tried, more than ever recently because they liked Guardians of the Galaxy.

The DC movies absolutely have humor in them, even if they are overall more serious and MoS's Superman was miserably stiff.

Even the Nolan's Batman movies have jokes in peppered throughout. Movies need humor!

The Nolan movies did humor right!!! It came in short quantities, but not interrupting big events or ruining immersion. WB need to do that for future DC movies, in small doses but hopefully they don't overuse it and don't let it become a crutch to hide bad writing or a boring character.

I didn't mind Man of Steel's seriousness, in fact i can't imagine how they'd merge Clark's sh*tty depressing upbringing and losing 2 dads with comedy (TASM2 and IM3 proved sad/serious moments are hard to blend with humor). Now that this part of Clark's life is over with maybe BvS can take a closer approach to The Dark knight formula.

And i disagree about all movies "needing" humor. I can't see how The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather 1 & 2, The Good The Bad and the Ugly or Citizen Kane would be improved by more one-liners and less character development.

Oh don't forget American History X. Classic flick!!!

the new Nolan-verse doesn't

serious and super-heroes don't mix well, what made the Marvel movies great is that they mixed action and seriousness with measured humor.

@Porcelain_Chicken

The Good The Bad and the Ugly had plenty of humor, humor has many forms, it doesn't have to be one-liners.

Oh piss off, I'm sick of the humour in Marvel movies, in fact I'm sick of Marvel movies in general. They all feel the same!! GotG was overrated, it had a lot of issues but got a free pass just like every other Marvel movie. The only Marvel film that has lived up to the hype is Cap 2, everything else has been distinctly average.

MoS gets shit on for no reason even though it is better than every Marvel film bar Cap 2 imo.

it was OK but could have been much better, my problem with MoS was it is too dense and things happened to fast, the Krypton part could have been an awesome Sci-Fi pre-equal, I just feel WB are moving to fast with the movies, Marvel took their time and that is a big reason why it worked for them.
