The second movie was a lot better than the first however it still suffers from being drawn out. Unlike the first though, I found myself never wanting it to end, easily one of my top three movies I've seen this year.

The thing is though, the way in which most of the elements that come into play here yet are not in the book sort of make sense from a filmmaking perspective. If you want to draw out a big confrontation between various races and orcs, you're going to need to give out a lot of time to world-building and added dialogue for character arcs. When it comes to Gandalf leaving at a whim, the audience is going to need an understanding of the necromancer sub-plot that's further discussed in some of Tokien's other works.

Admittedly, there are times in which the drawn-out action sequences and walky bit does start to feel like Jackson's a bit 'comfortable,' but there's really no other creative team that seems to get the richness of this universe like him and his crew.

Shame it'll never happen.

If they do make a new movie based on one of tokens books they need to use as much real world locations as possible and only use CGI for all but the upmost impossible shots!

That's why Lord of the Rings is so renowned just like the original Star Wars because they used a lot of practical effects and stunts and only let the actors express emotions to the viewer instead of cheap thrills and bland humor to advance the story!

Might I add that I'm not against CGI when used moderately it's just when they put the sole emphasize on it that it makes a movie look uninspiring since every other movie does the same.

For The Silmarillion they need to use an all new cast of actors in real world locations instead of behind a green screen half of the time and instead of using CGI to get the viewers attention use Emotions, Drama and Feelings to make the viewers relate!
