Tangled Director Byron Howard to Helm Disney’s Buddy Action Comedy Zootopia for 2016 Release

Disney announced a new upcoming animated film earlier today at the D23 convention. Tangled director Byron Howard is onboard to helm Zootopia, which is described as a buddy action comedy that takes place in a world entirely inhabited by animals. Jared Bush (All of Us) is writing the script, and the story plays out against the backdrop of a contemporary setting in which animals take on anthropomorphic characteristics (ie. they wear clothes). The main characters of Zootopia are Nick Wilde, a fox, and Judy Hopps, a bunny. The mismatched duo will be at the center of the “buddy action” concept.
