Nerdluster Writes: Since 2009 the biggest comic book publishers in the industry, DC and Marvel, have been owned and micromanaged by two of the largest competitors in television and film. Since their creation the publishers have always engaged in a bit of friendly sparring, even co-creating a series in which their characters cross between the separate universes. But when it comes to television and films DC has only really had one success and that's Batman whereas Marvel has enjoyed many, sometimes concurrently. So last year when Marvel's Avengers catapulted to the top of the Summer box office DC needed to respond with a unifying hero to help bind their universe together.
