CBM: Despite negative backlash from some Marvel fans over THAT Mandarin twist, and a few mixed reviews from critics, Marvel's Iron Man threequl is now the 8th most profitable movie of all time.
Agreed but I think that theater tragedy in Colorado affected sales of The Dark Knight Rises. The Dark Knight Rises should have sold more than Transformers Dark of the Moon.
the tragedy took a big blow in the box office overall of dark knight rises on the other hand the false promotion of the mandarin in advertising worked wonders for iron man 3.
Dark Knight trilogy is actually considered by critics the best trilogy in the history of film making. So learn to appreciate the good stuff we get these days because it's pretty rare. ;)
Thing is , TDKR isnt a family/childrens film, and is definitely not as accessible or fun to watch as Iron Man 3. Thats where the greater appeal and money comes from.
I actually think the Mandarin was the highlight of the film. Sure, it would've been cooler if they stuck to comics, but at least it was well executed in the film.
The films biggest let down for me is the "I have an invention that will perfect humanity and I'm going to use it to create exploding pyro-maniacs, which will be in demand because no-one likes terrorism."...URRRRRGH! This is fast becoming the modern action film cliche.
TDKR was lame especially the ending. really bane cries like a little baby and gets beat up easily by an old man. then some lady stabs batman because her father bulll crap stuff. bruce wayne lets that catwoman screw him over so many times and basically had him killed and he marrys her? a lot of it was just dumb. at least iron man 3 has history and is connected with a huge universe thats unified so you can have tons of stuff to think and talk about when discussing the movie.
the only thing you can say at the end of TDKR is, is robin, robin or is he batman now lol.
Bane beats up Batman many times before that so Batman has to beat him up the one time. Iron Man 3 does not even add anything to the Iron Man world, it was just an attempt at cashing in on the success of the prior films
At least Bane has screen presence...the only thing in Iron Man 3 that has any sort of presence is the Mandarin, which turned out to be a joke, quite appropriate don't you think?
Would love to see a break down between ticket sales and ticket types. Disney and their foray into 3D is purely profit driven, not an ounce of artistry. The 3D in Iron Man 3 was poor, not one aspect of it was enhanced over the 2D counterpart, felt like I was watching a 2D film with an extra set of glasses on.
Had to spend all day preordering tickets for Dark Knight Rises, Iron Man 3D tickets took a minute to get hold of and there were still spare seats during opening weekend weekend. However, Star Trek 2 took quite a while getting tickets, absolutely packed out and still doing well...and it's in 3D, perhaps you'll see this being the biggest grosser of the year.
This is good news, since 2008 Marvel Studios have continuously made great comic book films and they just keep getting better as they get more use to it. They have set the standard for what a comic book film should be and if you aim for anything less when making one then you're aiming for failure.
TDKR DESERVES BETTER...
Very soon marvel movies will take over all those box office top ranks spot.
The timing of Ironman cant be better i mean there were literally nothing worth watching in the cinema for months
Thing is , TDKR isnt a family/childrens film, and is definitely not as accessible or fun to watch as Iron Man 3. Thats where the greater appeal and money comes from.
The movie was good except for the Mandarin part.
