Daniel of PopCults.com writes "The Great Gatsby is one of those books pretty much everyone has to read around seventh grade whether they like it or not. The latest film version feels like the book report of a seventh grader who read the book and can tell you what happens in it but doesn’t actually understand the point of any of it. Especially if that seventh grader had an overactive imagination and an abiding love of fireworks and confetti. It has a great cast and lots of big silly set pieces that only sort of work. If anyone but Baz Luhrmann was directing this script, this movie would be incredibly boring and terrible. Instead it is just terrible."
