Between 'Iron Man 3' And 'Avengers 2', Should Newcomers Even Bother With Marvel Movies?

Hollywood: There's a moment at the beginning of Iron Man 3, Marvel Studio's latest attempt at world domination, where Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark is suffering from some major PTSD akin to an Iraqi war veteran or a child who survived corporal punishment in Catholic school. What is causing him sleepless nights and panic attacks? We're given some vague answers about "what happened in New York" and a "wormhole," but never, once, does anyone utter what really happened to the character since the last time we've seen him: The Avengers.

This is probably the stupidest article... it's not hard to watch what, 6 movies from Phase One?

Honestly, the connections between movies is so slim that it doesn't really matter where you start. A newcomer doesn't really miss much. Sure if they didn't watch Avengers, they don't know why Stark has ptsd but they aren't really diminishing their enjoyment of IM3. It's pretty obvious he's been doing the iron man thing for a while and he has ptsd due to some event in the past. That's all they need to know.

Also they can easily start with Avengers. They don't need to see origin stories. Not like these are deep characters to begin with. They're just archetypes.

Some people may miss out, other wont. Lets face it, Avengers took 1.5 billion worldwide. Which shows a hell of a lot of people went to see it. Iron man films have taken a huge amount of revenue since their inception... Most people who "like" any of the films will naturally seek out the others. A few wont, who cares.?

Iron man films have taken a huge amount of revenue since their inception... Most people watching Iron man 3 are doing so because of enjoying the previous films and possible the avengers.

I for one have enjoyed Iron Man since the beginning so that's why I went to see it. I will go see it again. I would like to see in IMAX maybe to see what that is like...I've never seen a movie like that.
