The Walking Dead Spin-Off is Coming, But What Should it Cover?

Otaku Dome:

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 4 years since the TV adaption of famed Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead first graced our TVs. Even more crazy is it’s insane popularity, which not only helped the original comics grow in popularity (though the comics had a pretty big following already), but it also broke history making TV ratings records. With all the success of the on-screen adaption of the comic, you’d think that it’d be popular to sustain it’s place in the entertainment industry forever, that’s why The Walking Dead fans from around the world were shocked to hear AMC announce a companion/spin-off series to their original hit.

The spinoff will give writers way more freedom without all of the comic book character etc.
Would be interested in what kind of budget it would have.

Plus, you could go off with some of the characters if the current show gets too big. I would love to see the Lee and Clementine story but the thing is, it is set in the south like the current show. Time to move the story to the Atlantic North East, Boston and up through Maine.

Yes, I said it, zombies with a New England Accent.

They haven't faithfully followed it anyway.

Naww, just do a live action Lee & Clem spinoff. Keep it close to the source material. Have it cross over with TWD original series, with Rick & friends, every now and then.

That'll be good enough...

spin off from the zombies' perspective

OtakuDome4038d ago

That would actually be pretty hilarious, going for the Warm Bodies vibe. They could also give it a serious look into the life of a zombie, like the only true control they have over themselves is their inner thoughts or something, due to their past lives as being...alive.

Just make who ever writes the telltale games walking dead do this script for this series because at this point, it seems like the game is written and directed much better than the ongoing tv series.

lets have a group that actually takes place somewhere else other than the south USA. I wanna see what other places in the world turned out.

I love walking dead. But my god the DRAMA. let's get back to the zombies being the threat.
Here's my pitch. Hopefully the powers that be are listening.

The show revolves around a core group of government agents. The last surviving group with a fully functioning lab/base. It would follow two sub groups. The scientists who generally stay at the base and work for a cure. The second would be an elite team of soldiers who do recon and gather what is needed for the scientists to work and live. The show is about them trying to save the world or country at large while keeping themselves alive. Done....

I say they have a base because we have already seen the original cast wandering and searching for a safe haven. That's old news. I chose the scientists and commandos because it would be nice to see what trained intelligent people could do in that world. People who know each other and work together. Yet there's still so many ways to take it. In fighting. Personal issues(for the drama inclined). I like walking dead. But I'd be interested in seeing new things. Not just another group of every day survivors. It would just be the same character archetypes. The leader, the badass. The dumb person. Comedy relief, etc etc. granted you need those types in my vision as well. But to a lesser extent.

I both love & hate your idea. I love it for this

"I chose the scientists and commandos because it would be nice to see what trained intelligent people could do in that world. Not just another group of every day survivors." And because i know AMC would do it right. I hate it because i feel like we've seen soldier/commando Vs. zombie like a billion times in the past. It would feel more overused than the "every day survivors" shtick.

Oh and AMC's motto is "We know Drama" lol. It shows the situations (panic, trust issues, death, hate, anger) you'd face in an actual zombie apocalypse as opposed to most zombie shoot-em ups.

Also @ article "Albert Wesker and Chris Valentine." Chris Valentine...

Yeah horrible typo on my part, didn't even notice until now.

Hroach6164038d ago

Yeah I totally understand your view. I agree it has been done a lot. The commando/scientist thing. But I love the world of walking dead. And after the amazing games and the show I would just love to see that in the walking dead universe. But I def see you point. And I agree the drama needs to be there. But lately on the show it's just been drama I don't care about. If it was drama I cared about with the characters I care about I would change my opinion a bit.
But thanks for the opinion. Def gives me something else to think about.
