It isn't Sony's IP. Sony has the film license for Spider-Man. Marvel still owns Spider-Man so if anything Sony is holding Spider-Man film license hostage.

Sony owns the film RIGHTS to Spider-Man. There’s no hostage taking. Marvel sold it to them. They own it.

Why are people down voting Ace326 they are the only person that said it correctly . They have timed license agreement and if they do not make Spider-man in a set amount of years they lose the license. This is what happened back in the 90s a studio rushed to make a Fantastic Four film so they would not lose the license.

All Sony has to do is prove they have a movie in development and they retain their license indefinitely though. With Spiderverse 2 already in development, Venom 2 and all the other Spiderman characters like Black Cat, Silver Sable movies in development already there's ZERO chance Sony will lose Spiderman.

Disney has no power in these negotiations. Same with why there are no solo Hulk movies because Universal has those rights. Disney wants more to go from taking 5% to 50% when Sony's movies make the same worldwide compared to Disneys Spiderman movies why would Sony agree to that?! Amazing Spiderman made almost as much as Homecoming did worldwide so there's no reason to believe they can't again.

Essentially never. The rerelease of Far From Home will start the 5 year cycle over. Venom 2 is in development and I believe that also counts towards the license.

Yeah because clearly Sony are intelligent and not going to deal with Disney's crap....Sony 100% financed the Spider-man films, and gave Disney 5% of the box office....Disney also got 100% of the films merchandising rights and 100% of the money that the merchandise makes.....

There is no universe where Disney deserves 50% of the profits, when they put in ZERO dollars, let Sony finance it all yet give them nothing for the merchandise and, nothing for the MCU films that Spider-man has appeared in....Greedy Disney looking to be greedy again....

Just like how they change things in Star Wars to avoid paying Lucas royalties, and refuse to make a solo Hulk film because Universal has to be atleast asked IF they want to distribute it.....Gotta love Disney can't make all the money for something so they would rather make nothing....

Disney's other properties make so much money, that's why they can afford to try and make moves like this, come out with nothing, and still be ok. Kinda sucks, but I already know where Sony is gonna go with this. Gonna do a Venom-Spidey film for sure now. I'd be surprised if that doesn't go down.

actually, morpheus isn't needed as much now all things considered.
Neo believes he is the one. Morpheus character arc of finding, training and making him believe he is the one to make peace between man and machine is complete.

would be nice to have him in the movie though but its not a make or break thing.

Edit: i would rather be hoping that Hugo Weaving makes a return.

You sir really don't know how many companies Disney owns to go bankrupt. they are the Octopus of companies they Own Marvel that you know. but!!!!! they also own Lucas film, WaltDisney parks, studio, Pixar, ABC TV, Vice Media, Disney Channel, Touchstone pictures, Hollywood Records, A&E TV, Lifetime TV, ESPN, GoPro camera, Fox TV , hundreds of small unknown companies. as I said before Disney has their hands on everything like a octopus. with so much mind control over people they'll NEVER go Bankrupt. the name Disney is a front for the global elite aka Illuminati . Don't forget they get 100% profit off of merchandise, theme parks and don't give Sony a penny when they use Spiderman in their Avenger films. The deal they had first was perfect and are only getting greedy by asking for 50% off box office profit. It's Sony's IP and it's not in their best interest to do such deal.

Again, Disney wants 50% lol. If y'all think this is fine, I will gladly take 50% of your paychecks from here on out. Or take half of your house. I can go on and on with this.

How greedy can you be?? You're about to launch a streaming service, you have all the other Marvel movies that make billions, Fox, and Star Wars etc. I didn't even mention all the stuff you make for kids. Sometimes I wonder what world people live in or reality for that matter.....

Don't be ridiculous that is a false equivalency. Sony pays 100% of the production cost while Marvel makes the movie. Disney wanted to split production cost 50/50 so that they could make money from the films that they made. So Disney would still drop money in to production so that they themselves could make larger amounts of money from the film. Disney has the merchandising rights because Marvel actually owns Spider-Man just not the film rights. Also Sony did not even create a counter offer. Sony used Disney to make a Spider-Man that people actually wanted to watch and then drop them at the last second to try and secure all of the profits and a couple more movies. That is the REALITY if you actually decided to research the issue instead of letting your emotions get in the way because you hate the avarice of Disney.

Here's the thing Disney agreed to the deal and signed a contract so if they go to court a precedent has already been set. Disney owns ZERO rights to Spiderman movies and are now asking for 50% when they do NOT own the rights to the movies.

If you look at adjusted inflation tickets then the MCU Spiderman movies don't even make top 3. Homecoming didn't exactly destroy Amazing 1 and 2 and those were Sony's worst movies in terms of sales.

Thank God!!!!!!! I'm sure I'm alone on this but only Sony understood what made Spider-Man work. That's why Spiderverse was such a hit movie. Sony understands what has to be at the center of Spider-Man's lore. It has to be Spided-Man's internal conflict with the loss of his Uncle Ben. The MCU took Uncle Ben out and never mentioned him. Their Peter Parker had no internal conflict. He was just a kid with a hot aunt (which I've got beef with that aspect too). A kid who was spoiled and didnt have to struggle for much. It wasn't the Spider-Man from our childhoods. It wasn't a Spider-Man that knew sacrifice or selflessness. MCU Spider-Man was just a kid with a want to good for no apparent reason. I say good riddance.

People are soo in love with the MCU they dont actually sit and valuate what they watch they just take it as blind greatness... Sony have had a LOT of missteps with the Spider-Man character but one thing they KNOW is how to make the Spider-Man character 'Spider-many' Which is something i cant say the same for when it comes to Disney and their handling of Spider-Man

I remember the first 2 spiderman and xmen movies more than the entirety of the mcu. They are fun to watch for sure but not on a level that you really care about any of the characters. That's my opinion.

I respect your opinion MWH. I'm actually the opposite. I cared about the old movie's characters more. The MCU is so huge that its exhausting to try and care about everyone. I felt more in the first half hour of Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) when uncle Ben died than I did when any character died in the MCU. Sure they were sad, but it didnt really matter to me as I knew they'd be replaced with one of a billion characters Disney has at their disposal and they always make sure you know that too which takes away from those deaths. Characters in the MCU themselves are only written with enough depth to make you care enough to see the sequel. That in and of itself is more sad than any MCU death in my opinion. I miss the days of writers trying to convey actual emotion rather than superficial emotion. Even the death of "you know who" at the end of Endgame didnt really hit me like I thought it would or should. I still feel raw emotion when Uncle Ben dies though....

Wasn't Sonys decision. Disney wanted majority profits for a license that wasn't theirs. I say good riddance. Tom Hollands portrayal was empty anyway and people only went to see his movies in order to understand the whole MCU story. Sure they were fun to watch but they had no depth to them. They didnt do anything new and they robbed the character of Spider-Man of everything that made him special. That scene where he says he's nothing without the Spider-Man suit perfect capitulates the Tom Holland movies. The fact he wears that suit is the only thing that he has in connection to an actual character that should be Spider-Man.

I understand both sides of the situation. But as a fan this is disappointing. Sony bungled 3 movies in a row and messed up venom bad. They can’t be trusted to plan ahead and make compelling characters and stories. They did a great job with spiderverse I’ll give em that. So they had every right to not agree to an admittedly steep deal.
But Disney MADE spiderman into the billion dollar monster it is now. Sony financed the last two films. But Marvel wrote and produced the actual films. They deal only really worked before because they could put him in avengers movies. Now that those are gonna be slowed down a bit it’s a lot of work to make someone else’s movies and get back 5% of first day only theater sales. Marvel knows how to make spiderman movies.
A 25/75 split would seem fair if they split that both in profits and production costs.
I’m just not a fan of the way Sony handles their characters so I really don’t like how this played out. Hopefully they work something out it last minute to keep the deal going. Otherwise we’re gonna get rushed spiderman character movies that change drastically between movies because Sony has WAY too many people trying to get a hand in the pot instead of one creative vision.

If you adjust for inflation the Raimi movies would’ve been billion dollar babies too.

When Venom can do almost $900 million on its own and Into the Spiderverse can win an Oscar, you gotta do better than just slapping the Stark name and Avengers masks on everything in sight. This continuity ain’t that special imo. Uncle Ben’s death should be Peter’s turning point not Tony Stark’s death. Even the nightmare scenes vs Mysterio had zombie IronMan instead of Ben. Meanwhile May’s doing his butler. Ugh.

Give it a couple years. Superfans love Star Wars every time it comes out too. Over time the rose tinted Stark AI glasses come off. If Mark Hamil doesn’t slap them first.

As if Disney doesn't own the rights to just about every damn franchise on the planet. They are ridiculously greedy. All so they can pay their CEO RIDICULOUS sums of money (65 MILLION A YEAR) and charge consumers a fortune (i.e. rip them off) for just about everything.

Thanks for screwing this up Disney. Sony hold on to those rights and extend your middle finger to Bobby Iger and Disney.
