TV Line The zombie apocalypse is spreading to the Left Coast! One of the key unanswered questions surrounding AMC’s in-the-works Walking Dead spinoff — where will it be set? — can now be revealed.

Los Angeles...how original, well America in general

The first series is set their why not move it to London, Paris, South Africa etc

Let us see the world in those places.

I really have no hope for this, the characters sound awful, half of them are kids/teenagers (Three Carls) and the setting sounds dull.

I'm with you. It does seem rather unoriginal. There are many better locations than LA in West Coast America. I would prefer to see the NW Coast, such as northern Cali or even further like Eugene, Oregon or all the way up into Washington.

But even more, there are plenty of other locations in the world to film. America doesn't always need to be the center of Hollywood style apocalypses.

With how much the Walking Dead brings in for them.....pffft....it's just being cheap

Even if they bring it down to 6 episodes and stick to less characters that's sure to cut costs

I'd actually like to see it take place in the far north of US or somewhere in Canada. The climate in Atlanta and California is too easy to live with.

WD is good because there is a level of intimacy to it. I think that would be lost in LA. I like the idea of a Canada border or something. Somewhere with a different climate to Atlanta.

It's basically the same idea as Atlanta then.... the only difference is the film crew won't be dying in heat while filming, and it'd probably be cheaper to get actors guild zombies in there....

Other than that they will probably go East and end up in the same exact environment as the current show. Woodland areas and a prison. Maybe if we are lucky they get close to the desert..... Otherwise it's rather hard to tear apart LA and Atlanta :/

The setting should be really unique and there needs to be a reason for it all too. Maybe it should revolve around some last-ditch group of power, be it the remains of the government/military. For example, is the President dead? It could show what they're trying to do to fix the problem, etc.

Firstly the original Walking Dead will move towards Washington DC so it would make no sense to have both shows there.

Secondly, reports are that filming will start in California with an LA setting for the first season then move to another location a few episodes in.

But I do agree that it would be good if they maybe came out with a Walking Dead: London, because it would really showcase a different location, culture, characters and so on. But then you have a problem that it could become too similar to "28 Days Later", a film very similar to The Walking Dead, set in London that uses the exact same opening plot as The Walking Dead with a main character waking up from a coma in hospital to find a changed world. You also have to factor in that a London show may not get the same ratings with US viewers as a US based show. Would English survivor attitudes, dialects, locations, way of life, etc all translate over to a US based audience, or would they attempt to Americanize it a little to satisfy a US audience that would then appear fake and non-British! It would be a huge risk that could either work big time, or flop the entire franchise, and I don't think AMC are ready to take big risks as they are company that decided that no matter how much gore they have, they can't use the F word when they are screwing with the wrong guys!

I can see the spin-off show capturing the excitement of films like Dawn Of The Dead very well, bringing about the early days of the outbreak with the chaos and excitement and fear of this new spreading threat, while keeping it in real world places where supermarkets are full of goods, electricity still works and people are very much innocent and will help each other without hesitation or distrust.

Meanwhile I can see the original Walking Dead show turn much more into a Mad Max type film, where the world is changing more and more into a survival show where vehicles are customised heavily, custom weapons are devised, where fighting for resources becomes even more important than surviving against the dead and the old life is lost more and more.

Have you been watching the show thebworld be going to Washington anymore... I think London or just uk would have been a neat idea, lots of iconic places and land marks, dense populations and theyvstill speak English so you don't have to.try and convey that theybstr foreign....

I have watched all episodes but because they are not heading there NOW, doesn't mean by the end of Season 5 they won't at least head there (or in my opinion) arrive there for the finale.

I will give you my reasons for believing this in order of importance (least likely and most flimsy reason first, to most strongest evidence last)....

1) The UK FOX Walking Dead logo for Season 5 has a city in the background each week with what looks like the Washington Memorial? I have found an example to show for one of the past episodes, skip to the final 5 seconds for the Walking Dead logo and you can see someone went to a lot of effort to visually display Washington DC. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Of course this could be just because the plot of the show has mostly been about heading to Washington, but it feels more visually concepted and I feel a clue to them one day arriving there, like a little bit of an Easter Egg.

2) The TV show is loosely following the plot of the comic books, and in the comic books they do eventually end up in Washington DC. Some of what happens when there has already occurred (such as finding out about Eugenes true identity) but other events are still to play out, possibly being kept for a future DC episode.

3) Morgan... if you caught the after-credits scenes that showed Morgan arriving at the Church that Rick found Gabriel, you will have seen him pick up a map with a note from Abraham saying they were heading to Washington DC with the route marked out. Now obviously Morgan believes that Rick and whoever he is with has headed to Washington DC and the natural conclusion is he will head there too, in the hope to meet back up with Rick. And that is why I believe they will end up in Washington DC.... because why keep hinting towards Morgan in a couple of episodes, teasing the viewer and then send him off on a road trip to Washington if the writers have no intention of sending Rick to Washington to "bump into" him? It might have been different if Rick was already heading off to Washington and then Morgan found the map and followed behind, but Rick is in Atlanta and not Washington so now Morgan is in effect in the lead, likely to arrive in Washington first, so for them to meet and there to be any rational conclusion to Morgan's storyline, Rick HAS to head off to Washington for their paths to cross.
I doubt Rick and Morgan will meet until Series 6, but looking at early preview of Episode 9 where they are wandering 100 miles and look for shelter they are without a plan and unsure what to do long term (Michonne suggesting they need to settle down and start again). Clearly by the next couple of episodes someone will re-suggest Washington as as good a place as any to seek a new start and they will spend the remainder of the series trying to get there, with maybe the final scenes of this series with them arriving and teasing us with what they are about to find (with some huge twist that leaves us going.... Nooooooo!!!!) lol

That are my reasons for why I think Washington DC is still going to figure at some point (albeit briefly) towards the end of Series 5.
