Marvel Wants A Fresh Start With 'Spider-Man' Without Andrew Garfield

LR: We previously reported on the potential deal between Marvel and Sony to share the rights to Spider-Man at a 60/40 split, and that deal seems to be the one that will potentially be jump-started if Sony Pictures Entertainment continues to stumble in their handling of the Spider-Man franchise.

Poor Garfield. I actually liked him & Emma Stone in their roles. But it really does feel like it's too late to bridge those movies to the MCU.

Gotta wonder who Marvel would get to play Spidey and how much their films would differentiate from Sony's flicks.

I think if he hadn't have slammed the film then he may have returned. If you pay someone millions of dollars and then they say the film was bad you don't really think they deserve it again if they were ungrateful before. I would prefer a new actor to differentiate from the current series.

But Marvel wasn't behind any of the Spider-Man films, it was Sony. Andrew Garfield only criticize the studio behind Amazing Spider-man 2 because they change the script and decide to cut off some scenes from the film. When Andrew Garfield first got the script, he was really hype to make Amazing Spider-man 2. And he stated that he was no longer interested in Spider-Man and that he wanted to pass the torch to Miles Morales

As dotachampion mentioned, Garfield was initially hyped for ASM2 until the rewrites happened. I don't see what's wrong with expressing disappointment over that, especially when a lot of people seem to dislike the sequel too. I personally haven't gotten around to seeing it yet, but that's only because I despised the ASM reboot.

Edit: It doesn't strike as him being "ungrateful" as it's him expressing his opinion on how things turned out. The point's on the finished product, not the acting opportunity.

As for the news: Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman never really clicked for me anyways.

Like dota2champion & coolbeans said Garfield only criticised some stuff, he didn't outright slam the movie. I actually respect that! Take Clark Gregg for instance, who plays Agent Coulson. He called people who didn't watch Agents of Shield "losers". Makes Garfield look like a saint in comparison.

Don't get me wrong though, i'm extremely excited to see what Marvel can do with Spidey. I like Garfield & Stone in their respective roles but the TASM movies really aren't doing it for me. So i don't mind recasts in the slightest if it means we can move on from this series.

Garfield was kinda neutral for me. Dont mind someone else

Didn't like the second one to much

I feel the same way. Just like Spider Man 3 should have left out Venom and made it just about Sandman.

SouthClaw3419d ago

I like Garfield way more than I did with Maguire.

Sony keeps messing with scripts you get what you reap.

I understand why you would want to remove him from the role if you're rebooting it (AGAIN!) but it sucks.

WhateverBlah3419d ago (Edited 3419d ago )

Garfield was better at least from maguire, how they put this short ugly thing to play Peter Parker is beyond me... & the same I can say for M.Jane, Kirsten Dunst was teribad choice M.Jane suppose to be a hot sexy chick the most hot babe in the whole school with few words Kirsten was obviously not in the slightest a good fit to play a role such as that, actor choices was bad & this lead to bad movies & millions of disappointing fans, they don't have any clue what they must do to satisfy the fans unfortunately..
