I also agree, the ghostbusters was based on the works written in the 1920' and 1930's weird tales pulp era of magazine's

The fact is taking a reverse of the majority of all male cast is most defiantly in the spirit of Ghostbusters
Because it was always the damsel in distress , while this is a reverse of that. It is one of the times where going back to its roots of the foundation of its tongue and cheek methodology will do it some good.

So he said yes to this because they asked nicely yet his real friends asked him to do a proper sequel for years and he flip flopped between yes and no putting the film in development hell untill one of them died.
