Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Find Their 'Spider-Man' Star and Director

From Marvel:

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Dissapointed...HOWEVER...much better then the others like Asa Butterfield, Charlie Plummer and Matthew Lintz.

Still don't see why they didn't go with the version of Peter Parker from Renew your Vows. Would have fit into the Marvel Film Universe more.

LMAO, I thought Sony was supposed to be the one ruining spider man? He looks like he would be better suited starring in one of those terrible sitcoms on the Disney Channel like the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. It's obvious that Disney is trying to play to that crowd.

Problem is can you imagine this guy as Spiderman hanging out with the Avengers we have on screen.

He'd stick out like sore thumb.

I can't imagine him being best buds with someone like Tony Stark.

It works on print when reading the comics as you use your own imagination on what it would be like to suit your views on it but on screen....I don't think it'll work.

It's why they needed an older Spiderman, to fit in with the other superheroes.

I don't follow Marvel comics real well, but isn't Spiderman supposed to be a little awkward around the Avengers, and furthermore, not usually a major player in the Avengers?

"It's obvious that Disney is trying to play to that crowd."

Not really. Spider-Man is a teenager in the comics and so is this kid. We're not having a 27-yr old play a high schooler anymore. We get the real thing. That's pretty much it. Lol

Porcelain_Chicken3223d ago (Edited 3223d ago )

That's what I've been saying!!!! We're literally getting Spider-man from the comics and people are getting pissy! Because they have trouble seeing a kid on screen but not on comics? Imaginations run really thin sometimes.

I can live with Tom Holland. Not great but at least it isn't Chandler Riggs.

Spider-Man (Peter) hasn't been in high school for a while. He's usually in college or just finishing high school...

He's also been married for a while and for a few years now he has had his own company. Yes most stories take place when he was younger, but not high school young.

Most series have him slightly older, more like young adult, not child.

Everyone on reddit says he's a good actor. I'm going to have to check out his film to judge for myself

caseh3222d ago

If you have any concerns then I would have to point at the director rather than the actors. About 90% of his output has been TV shows or TV movies.

Why Sony and Marvel have picked this guy is beyond me at the moment.

RetrospectRealm3222d ago

Did you not read the article? It says he's been impressive in screen tests.

caseh3222d ago

Yes, I did.

"Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors"

That went well with The Amazing Spiderman reboot didn't it.
