Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry Coming to Blu-ray...Uncut

JL|4657d ago |Blog Post|12|

At a panel at SDCC which focused on Blu-ray, Warner Home Video's George Feltenstein gave us some good news for any fans of the classic cartoons.

Any fan of said cartoons know that, back in the day, these cartoons were much more "risque" on some levels. Fast-forward to present day and those cartoons become very controversial in nature. As a result, all releases of these classics on DVD have been cut and edited so as to reduce the controversial nature of them. This has created an outcry among fans who want the classic cartoons in full form as they were seen when we were kids. Well all that will soon be amended.

Feltenstein has come out and said that classic episodes of Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry will be making their way to Blu-ray this year. Not only that, but they will be featured in their entirety: completely uncut and unedited while being fully remastered.

No exact date was given for these releases, but they will be releasing this year according to Feltenstein. More specifically, they'll release this fall sometime.

Feltenstein went on to say that, due to the controversial elements on the vintage cartoons, Warner Bros have not allowed them to release these cartoons uncut. However, Feltenstein and others have organized a work-around for this. His loophole: releasing them uncut as historical archive pieces. The release of Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry will be used to gauge interest in this uncut editions. Feltenstein stated that, if the two do well, then there will be more to follow.

So, here's to looking forward to a non-bastardized Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes. And here's to hoping for more in the future.

So is this like the Looney Tunes classic collection or will they release all Looney Tunes cartoons?

JL4655d ago

It's a Looney Tunes classic collection. Feltenstein did say that, if these did well, they would release more like this in the future. Though, he didn't give any specifics on what they'd release in the future.

This does sound great...I've always liked Tom and Jerry. I don't think they will ever be too out of style for any age. They're always funny.

This is AWESOME! I hate how badly these "groups" have ruined cartoons and their entirety. My little brothers hardly ever can sit there and watch TV unless Spongebob is on and its annoying when you need to babysit.

So instead I went and found all the 90's shows from Nick and they love those haha.

This will be even better. Allow them to watch REAL cartoons. However the new Cartoon Network is starting to bring it back. All their new shows are absolutely awesome. Go check out the new looney tunes show, its great.
