40 million have set sail...that's great. How many are sailing now? Monthly active users....when it actually matters. How many people purchased the game is another important number.
You don't get numbers like that from MS mouth pieces, they just like to say stuff like "this game was looked at 129 million time, the biggest amount of people browsing a game of this genre on xbox gamepass ever in the last 3 weeks compared to before gamepass was out (small print only 2 million bothered playing longer than 20 seconds and only 100 people are playing it concurrently)

There are usually around 10,000 concurrent users on Steam not counting Xbox or PS but really it doesn't matter as long as there are enough people on the servers to play which there always were and will be for a long time now with the PS players coming on board. Same goes for how many people bought it and how many are on GP, we aren't the accountants of these console companies so why would we care?
Reporting on MAU stats is very misleading. Other companies publish units sold, MS cannot or will not due to Game Pass. We all know that their prior startegies have not panned out so now they have to actually sell games on other consoles. In any case, SoT is doing impressive preorders on PS5 and will very likely motivate Satya to release more games other than the four indicated games on their competitor's consoles. Take note Phil is radio silent....
40 Mil across Stream, Windows 10, and Xbox. Healthy numbers for sure, but when PC is the biggest platform, I expected more. It’ll be interesting to see how it does on PlayStation. Very well could be double that player count in 6 months with PS too. It’s crazy for developers to skip the most popular platform, not sure why they’d want to, but they must have had their rea$ons.
It looks like PS5 players can't wait to don tricornes and raise anchor; Sea of Thieves is currently experiencing "longer wait times that normal", according to developer Rare, thanks to a "high volume" of new players joining the game as part of today's freshly launched PS5 Closed Beta.

I remember the time when some PS fans used to sh!t on this game, by calling it an ugly game with cartoony graphics, awful and boring.
Fast forward six years and RARE is now facing server issues due the high influx of PS5 gamers trying to set sail prior release.
Those are true gamers that will enjoy great adventures with friends or solo.

None of the big AAA Xbox first party games is coming to Playstation, but smaller and Live Service games.
Like Phil Said: Nothing has changed. Ori (smaller game) got released on the Switch. Minecraft (Live Service) has been on all platforms since forever.

For real? This is supposed to be viewed as some sort of Sony victory? I mean, Sony is investing BIG money, time and resources trying to create some successful LS games for years! In the process, people were laid off, studios closed and games canceled, for what?
Sony paid Square for FOAMSTARS, got it released day one on PS Plus and that game allegedly flopped. Just like another Playstation exclusive live service game, Babylon´s fall, before it. For what?
To see Microsoft releasing yet another (seemly) successful new LS game on their platform, "stealing" playstation gamers (you need a Microsoft account to play that game) while getting a 70% cut from every copy sold of a full priced 6 years old game?
If that´s is something for you to celebrate, I think its safe to say that both parties will be happy.

When I played it many years ago, the kraken didn't even have a body. It just had tentacles. Hopefully they fix that. You can actually swim at the bottom and see that 🤔

When SOT released. It was barren it was boring. It has some neat ideas and the water was great. You know what else game was like this? No man's sky.
When SOT released. Not only did I dump on it. I took a massive diarrhea dump on it.
But like no man's sky. As years went on it got better and better and better. It got so good I bought it (not rent) on steam and it turned out to be a fun game years later.

I like what rare have done so much. I put my hand in my pocket and bought (not rent) SOT again on ps5. Just like I did with No man's sky's. Just like what I did with fallout 76. At release all 3 of them games where awful. Years of updates have made all 3 fun to play.
Now I could just flip what you said. Remember when Xbox fans dumped on No Man's sky? But loved it once it had updates and released on Xbox years later. But I'm not that type of small minded person. I'm glad developers continue on working on games way after release. I'm happy people can change there minds on a game once they see the improvements. But according to you. Do we even know how many people actually still play this game to point at the issue being too many new PS5 players not just the puny servers left on a game that failed hard on release now being overloaded by a free trial on a re-release? How is this irony? A metric ton of people play Fortnite and CoD, some of the two sh#$% games on the planet. A cellphone monopoly game is pulling in billions and it's another sh#$ game. People will play these kinds of titles, but he won't invest in an entire system just for Sea of Thieves, which is why MS had to hand it over.
Ps5 owner here , never trashed this game and I was thinking about a second console until Phil decided to put xbox games on ps5.

Im not buying a MS game unless its Halo 1,2,3 and or Reach and the first three gears. Those are the only decent games and its says alot that they from the 360 generation.

I was referring to Reach and Gears specifically. Also I actually had three 360 consoles. The RPGs sold me. Angry much? Not my fault MS screwed up two generations in a row and now their games are coming to Sony consoles. Be thankful, at least Sony owners will actually buy them

Never been a SoT guy. Found it kinda boring and aimless. The preorders have been good enough to keep this porting experiment going tho. Curious what’s next.
Rare has scheduled a Sea of Thieves closed beta for the PS5 version launching at the end of April, with access granted by pre-ordering the title on the PS Store.
The pre-release test will run from Friday, 12th April 2024 until Monday, with all participants unlocking PS5 exclusive items: the Dauntless Adventurer Sails and Title.

The concept/game had so much potential to be a great hit. The end result was its got amazing water effects...
