Xbox One vs Xbox One X - Can you really spot the difference?

Gareth writes: "So I went all in. New Xbox One X, new 4K TV and a new smart kettle. My girlfriend thinks I’m having a midlife crisis, but I’ve told her that I’m winning at life. So much so that I haven’t seen her for three days. But was it worth it? Was the expense, the emotional toil and the huge indecision making worth it for some shiny new graphics? Well… yes it was."

i agree. it wasn’t just the resolution bump either. It’s the extra graphics effects, the better textures, MS did the update right

SpaceRanger2345d ago

I don’t think it was that hard of an update when the original Xbox One and Xbox One S currently plays games at a sub-HD resolution with a lot of sacrifices texture and graphical effects.

Nonetheless, an update indeed.

Bigpappy2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Its not about being hard or easy. Its about can you spot the difference. Your point would have had more weight if it was only when compared to the X1 that you would see the differences. But you can see it against the PS4 and even the Pro too. So beating up on the X1 is wholly unnecessary here.

Xb1ps42345d ago

ill Just chalk this one up to salty and clueless...

NoPeace_Walker2345d ago

The new Hitman is native 4K on the X and 1440p on the orher consoles according to Digital Foundry. They confirmed it is a massive upgrade. If you cannot spot the difference, you are either blind or in self denial.

Bobafret2345d ago

Sub HD is below 720p...

Imalwaysright2345d ago

Wich is the game that runs at less than 720p on the X1?

Gazondaily2345d ago

It's just not the Xbox One and S that the X is leaving squarely in its rear view mirror

SpaceRanger2345d ago

“So beating up on the X1 is wholly unnecessary here.”

Some of you fanboys are just ridiculous (especially those that commented below me). I brought up ONLY the Xbox because this is an Xbox One comparison to the Xbox One X. What’s the point of bringing up other consoles, just because the majority of you play on an old Xbox One or Xbox One S?

strifeblade2344d ago

actually space ranger- look at your comment history, half your comments are inappropriate and what a surprise its about the xbox one, so its quite clear what you tried there and who is ridiculous, none the less, whats clear is the xbox one x and its image- whats not is the other console that reminds me of campbells soup :)

KillBill2344d ago (Edited 2344d ago )

So what then was PS4 Pro and their excuse then that they couldn't or wouldn't update the system to any kind of reasonable increase in level when compared to PS4? MS went above and beyond in an increase of power giving a huge leap in resolution and power with XB1X but Sony chose just enough increase to support the PSVR and little more.

There seriously is no way in knocking the XB1X and its improvements over XB1 without knocking PS4 Pro even more harshly so with their showing.

spreadlove2344d ago

Even when the Xbox One X is compared to PS4 or the PS4 Pro there is substantial improvement clearly seen by anyone.with 125% extra pixels, extra graphical features and ultra textures over the PS4 Pro alone, it is a massive upgrade. One that is much higher than the specification of the Xbox One X over PS4 Pro suggests.

Yeah it's fantastic.

I've always been one to look at comparisons online and not see any difference. But I also always knew that those comparisons never tell the true story, because of so many factors like the youtube video quality and the monitor you're using.

But in person, yes the difference is noticeable and it's great.

Also, I loved this line from that article so much... "My girlfriend thinks I’m having a midlife crisis, but I’ve told her that I’m winning at life."

lol

I can definitely see regular Xbox owners upgrading and being blown away by the increased fidelity. The OG Xbox was already visually behind the OG PS4 which was in moderately behind the Pro which is moderately behind the X. That’s a big ass jump if all you had was the OG box. If you’re a gamer on everything your level of wow may vary.

Kribwalker2345d ago

i notice a huge difference over my OG Ps4 and my Xbox oneS as well. there’s way more then just resolution, which was the main difference between the PS4 and Xbox one, The extra 4 GB of ram alone is huge

I played Final Fantasy 15 on my OG PS4 and on my X. It was played on a 55 inch UHD 4K HDR LG television. It is like night and day.

Ricegum2344d ago

You're not going to say otherwise though are you. I mean, you just slapped £450 down on it, even if it wasn't "night and day" you'd still say it was 😂

He bought the same game for 2 systems, hard to believe.

Some sound salty they are too poor. Maybe next year you can find enough fat chicks to rent yourself out too.

rainslacker2344d ago

The jump in FFXV is pretty apparent between the base PS4 and PS4P. It was actually the first game I played when I got my PS4P. I was already playing the game, so just switched over to the new console.

FFXV is actually one of the better examples of the potential jump, and has an excellent HDR implementation.

Ive seen it on the X1X as well, and it does look really good there as well. Square is pretty good at making some impressive graphics.

SlyBoogie19932344d ago (Edited 2344d ago )

@Cmv38, why is it hard to believe, I often buy a game on Xbox, PS4 and PC just so I have it available for wherever I want to play. Plus I enjoy unlocking the achievements and trophies.

The 10th Rider2345d ago

It's all going to depend largely on the TV, viewing distance, etc . . .

A comparison article is a bit useless because on a 24" 1080p TV with an 8' viewing distance you may not even notice ny improvements besides loadtimes, but with a 60" 4K TV and an 8' viewing distance the jump in resolution should be pretty dang apparent unless you have awful eyesight.

The 10th Rider2344d ago

Yes, I know it will look better on a 1080p TV. I'm saying that someone may not notice it on a 24 inch 1080p TV if they've got a viewing distance of 8 feet.

My point is that the fact of the matter is that the X looks better, but viewer experience will vary based on the size, resolution, vision, and viewing distance of their TV.

So yes, the X looks better, that's a fact. Whether or not someone can tell the difference depends entirely on their viewing setup.
