Holy sh!t if true....has EA heard the gaming community voice? Was it the reviews?

Very interesting if true, but I suspect something like this would require a lot of extra dev time and changing up of the design.

Hope it's true

Majin-vegeta2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

I think it was a little of everything.I was at my local GS earlier and i must have seen at least 10+ returning the game.

Now if we could all rally against all other games to get rid of lootcrates completely

Depending on what happens within the next few hours.I will gladly give them $60 for it tomorrow.

TyrellCorp2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Agreed, but I’m curious if Dice will attempt to somehow rework the mechanics of the game, or if it’ll just remain the exact same grind but without the ability to purchase content previously behind the pay wall. Either way a step in the right direction if true.

Apparently it’s a temporary decision: “EA has issued an official statement, confirming the removal of crystals. As such, and at the moment, every gear and Hero will be earned via progression. However, there is a catch. The publisher claimed that it will enable the ability to purchase crystals in-game at a later date. This will be done only after EA has made changes to the game. Therefore, it’s not a big win for customers. Or if you like it, it’s a win for all day-1 gamers!”

Same old EA BS

RpgSama2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Edit:
"Update: EA has issued an official statement, confirming the removal of crystals. As such, and at the moment, every gear and Hero will be earned via progression. However, there is a catch. The publisher claimed that it will enable the ability to purchase crystals in-game at a later date. "

Don't fall for it guys, they just want our day one purchase and they Will eventually put the crystals back in. F*CK EA!!! Was too good to be true

Magnetar2345d ago

Cosmetic loot boxes are fine. The way overwatch and titan fall handles it works great. That money makes it so new maps are free for everyone instead of having season passes or map packs.

yomfweeee2345d ago

You live at Gamestop? Find your story a bit hard to believe.

oof462345d ago

If they get rid of loot crates, then season passes come back.

King Nezz2345d ago

I agree we can dictate a lot that these big publishers do. While I'm not against publishers making extra money from games consumers have purchased, it has to be done right. DLC that adds to a game and isn't locked on the disc that has already been purchased, I'm ok paying for. But paying to strengthen your character or something along those lines is grimey.

bloop2345d ago

Unbelievable!! I thought they were finally going to give the gamers what they wanted!! When I first saw the headline I thought YES!! I'm going straight down to GameStop in the morning!! I knew it had to be too good to be true.

UltraNova2345d ago

I dont want to be negative, but (its EA we're talking about here) EA's latest statement says they're going to re-introduce the loot box system at a later date. So is this EA's tactic to bank as much money as they can up front?

Damn I really wanted to dive in this one but I guess my conciense prevails; I'll wait a couple months and see how things turn out.

4Sh0w2345d ago

Great, definite buy for me now.

bouzebbal2345d ago

Good job guys.. you finally understand that you can make your voice heard even against the most corrupt.
those guys have absolutly no power over you, you are the reason why they are the way they are and it is never too late!!!!
i have no interest in this game but hats off to the real gamers

MrBeatdown2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Learn to take a win.

Microtransactions will be back, but you all have no idea what form that will they will take.

I know gamers love being outraged, but can we just take the win and stop hating everything preemptively too?

Accept the fact that there isn't a developer or publisher that's going to give you a game with free DLC and not want to make some additional money.

R6ex2345d ago

Careful!

The official words from EA are "... The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date ..."

Thus, its only a temporary measure to suspend MT (and get us onboard to buy this game). Thus .....

Its a TRAP!

IamTylerDurden12345d ago

Yet ppl let Shadow of War get away unscathed..

IamTylerDurden12345d ago

Rpgsama

The game is being reworked. You can't just rip out MTs and expect the progression to be fine. EA is actually doing the right thing here. They are removing MTs until they can fix the overall system to make it less greedy and grindy. This is the right move.

fiveby92345d ago

Temporarily removing microtransactions is an interesting turn of events but far from any real victory for the gaming consumer public. EA is trying to figure out how they can navigate these waters. Most game publishing companies make the significant portion of the sales revenue at release. So by removing the MT's they hope to quell the concerns people may have upon release and draw everyone in.

Ever heard the saying "come into my den said the spider to the fly".

Now if EA permanently removed progression based MT's and timed mechanics in SP similar to f2p games then perhaps many would consider purchasing. But everyone is keyed in on the verbiage "temporarily removing". At best this is a wait and see but surely no day 1 purchase.

IaMs122345d ago

Sad its temporary, and wouldn't matter at that point since that would have your money so they could do whatever they'd like. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me... still not buying.

indysurfn2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

This happens when you vote loudly, and with money votes together.
No matter the few sellouts that defend this kind of crap we will always win.

Some will say "it is going to happen so except it" as long as you don't let your mind become defeated like theirs we will win. "It will happen, Except it" came from the executives. STOP REPEATING WHAT MARKETING EXECUTIVES PREACH!
Same thing happened with Microsoft's reveal. We won! They backed off too.

RacerX2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

I say you should still avoid this game. EA is backtracking, yes, but the next game will just have a more subtle and clever way of doing the same thing.

If everyone goes out and buys the game now, all EA learned was where the red line was, and they will back off just enough to keep bending over gamers.

We're a force to be reckoned with if we all actually unite and stand up together.

It's awesome to actually see gamers on all different sides agreeing on something as well. Very refreshing difference :)

StormLegend2345d ago

@PygmelionHunter No one likes that either, but at least GWG and PS+ offer you free games each month with deals and free items like themes and Avatars. What does this offer you? Nothing!!! Paying for online isn't the same.

fenome2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Yeah, I'm not buying their bullshit either way. They just want those day one buyers for the books and then they'll patch that shit in once the dust settles.

They don't deserve Star Wars. Hopefully sales on all of EA's Star Wars games decline enough to where they won't keep paying for the license and someone else who will respect it can start making real games in that universe.

Edit:

If people feel they absolutely must play it I'm sure you'll be able to find used copies in a week or two on the cheap, what's the hurry?

-Foxtrot2345d ago

So basically to trick people to sell a few more copies

Weeblordbad2345d ago

Cyro2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

I hope this isn't the case of buy now and get screwed later. Still hesitant to buy the game until they confirm the only thing purchasable is cosmetics.

Majin-vegeta2345d ago

You can always buy used if youre hesitant in for the future.

ZehnDrachen2345d ago

It only talked about the crystals. The loot crates and childish ‘star cards’ are still in the game.

gangsta_red2345d ago

Cobra9512345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

I'm guessing they'll also change them to be less objectionable. I think other publishers have taken notice too. Consumers won't put up with so much abuse. That's probably the bigger victory for us.

Ceaser98573612345d ago

Don’t hold your breath. Its EA we’re talking about here. They may be pulling another almighty “fuck you” out off their sleeve. They can’t be trusted...... yet.

oof462345d ago

Now everybody go after Activision!

DarXyde2345d ago

Don't be surprised if EA finds a way to make gamers regret this.

It only looks like the consumer has won, but I wouldn't say this is over.

gangsta_red2345d ago

Unfortunately it's not, EA is changing things up it seems but will be adding them back.

I suspect they're trying to figure out another way to implement these crystals that wont cause as much heat as they received currently.

MatrixxGT2345d ago

Yep, just like online passes. People bitched about those and now look at what we have. EA said, no more online passes and gamers cheered "We Won". Now you get something way worse.
Honestly, id rather bump the base price $20 and get the extra effort put into it to make it as good as possible.

tdogg060519912345d ago

UCForce2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Then we keep the hate train on going. Because this will make EA thick skull to change their behavior toward the consumers. And it will also make major publishers like Ubisoft, Activision, 2K and among others think twice about this.

TimelessDbz2345d ago

This is a lost for the fans for battle front 2. I guaranteed you that since the game has no form of income from a season pass or microtransactions future updates will either be bad or not even finish. Just because of no income.

andrewsquall2345d ago

You are right, so in the end, because of EA, this is a loss for the fans.

Miss_Vixen2345d ago

UPDATE:

EA has issued an official statement, confirming the removal of crystals. As such, and at the moment, every gear and Hero will be earned via progression. However, there is a catch. The publisher claimed that it will enable the ability to purchase crystals in-game at a later date. This will be done only after EA has made changes to the game. Therefore, it’s not a big win for customers. Or if you like it, it’s a win for all day-1 gamers!

PapaBop2345d ago

Only temporarily.. for all we know, they could quite easily put them back in with minor adjustments. Hate to be that negative person but they already did the whole PR "we're listening" after the beta backlash and did very little to change things back then.

It's still encouraging and a huge step in the right direction but it still doesn't change the fact the game still contains one of the worst progression systems in a modern online FPS. Spend 20 hours playing x class only to potentially get upgrades for y class.. who at Dice seriously thought this was a good idea?

Diffraction_Fos2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

Oh please. This is EA we're talking about. You really think they'll remove their cash cow completely without having some sort of insurance that they'll be able to recoup the lost potential revenue from MTs later down the line? You'd have more chance of flying to Pluto with nothing but your farts to propel you.

khdaface2345d ago

its temporary
"The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date"

https://www.ea.com/games/st...

CorndogBurglar2345d ago

They may have removed MT's but did they change how long it takes to unlock characters?

Removing MT's is only part of it. If it still takes 40 hours to unlock Vader and other heroes then that is still a big problem.

IamTylerDurden12345d ago

It's a 79 meta on PC, imagine how high reviews would be without the MTs.

galgor2345d ago

It's only temporarily to get people to buy it, don't be fooled.

Imalwaysright2345d ago

Probably the attention of some gambling comissions or maybe pressure from Disney.

subtenko2345d ago

They are just gonna backstab you some other time in the near or far future.....just watch...they will sucker people in

Captain_Tom2345d ago

I think DICE is taking this ultra seriously. They are fed up now that they have launched 2 Battlefronts in a row with bad reviews. I am sure EA is breathing down their necks that they are screwing up what was gonna be their biggest IP, and at the same time DICE actually does want this to be a good game.

Furthermore it's clear from previous interviews that DICE was planning on bringing this business model to Battlefield 2018. But now that this has happened they probably aren't sure about what they should do, and they know they only have like 6 months of tinkering to figure out the ideal system for their next game.

joab7772345d ago

I will get hate but they didn’t have to do that. They need to separate them from star cards and progression. They can offer cool cosmetics etc. Because I know that the next move will be to stop making these games. I’d prefer something like AC Origins or Overwatch. I hate micros and I’d love to see an industry wide removal, but now we will see paid dlc again etc. I’d rather just have the option to change outfits and decide how much i like the game. If I spend $60 and find I play it for 200+ hrs, I will gladly spend money to support them more. But it needs to be our choice.

Or add in game cosmetic items that can also be purchased. Leave loot boxes to random gifts or something.

SierraGuy2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

That was a cool trailer though...lol. Shareholders upset much? For such smart people they are so stupid. Do we look stupid EA?

Mikelarry2345d ago

@arkard

Official statement says this is temporary

arkard2345d ago

Temporary until changes are made

Weeblordbad2345d ago

@arkard

It will be like EVERYTHING related to the enthusiast community of gamers, if it pops back up with everything people hated in 6 months it won't even get half the hate it has received this past two weeks. Everyone will have found something else to be outraged at.

Palitera2345d ago (Edited 2345d ago )

"Can you imagine the shit storm that would follow if they took them out just to reimplement them the exact same way?"

Obviously. Can't you?

Well, surely EA can. They know that they implement the same exact system in a few months and it will be all old news. This is a PR stunt, a bad one, as only idiots felt for it, but there are too many people warning gamers about it.

The problem is: this is just one move in a very carefully planned strategy. Hopefully the pressure can push through IGN and Gamespot defending EA in the next days.

It is a major strike through their "make the outrage outdated" strategy, but the pressure is still going strong. Let's hope we can still screw EA's christmas, then we are good. :D

Kleptic2345d ago

it's pretty likely they'll tweak progression first.

It's important to note that a prime reason this game, Dice, and EA got raked through the coals to a viral degree...was that most of the progression in the game was randomized...not just time consuming, and not just that MT's allowed competitive advantage. Those are bad on their own, but without any 'path of persistence'...they're unforgiveable.

BF4 had mt's, and allowed players to buy crates, or even pay to unlock abilities for classes and vehicles...but, importantly, the way you 'naturally' unlock said abilities was straight forward. You didn't have to use xp to buy a crate to maybe drive a tank, or maybe gain access to a certain type of ability. You had a relatively easy path to unlock said stuff without wasted time in random things you didn't want to use. BF4 was a disaster for other reasons, but this would not have had nearly the fallout if it was handled in a less aggressive way...imo, at least...

but who am I? I haven't purchased a DICE, or EA entirely, product/service since BF4 to begin with...so I can't really complain, as I pulled the plug on their transparent BS years ago...

rainslacker2345d ago

EA isn't likely to wait months to bring something else in. I'd say within two weeks of launch max. The prime time for making money off MT is right on launch, and they won't give up money so easily.

It won't take long to see what they change. A bit of patience will show what EA intends to do. I wouldn't expect them at this point to know exactly what they may do, or be able to offer up a time frame, because they may not know for sure, but surely, we'll know something soon enough.

rainslacker2345d ago

It's quite rare for games to get re-reviewed. This gen, the only time I recall that happening was with DC, where they lowered initial reviews due to the launch problems, but never went back and redid them once it was fixed.

Anyhow, I don't see why EA should get this benefit for already published reviews. So long as the reviews state why they gave the score they did, then it's fair game. An update to said review can inform new readers that the problem has been temporarily addressed.

Personally, I don't see a reason to re-review anyways until we know what EA is going to do when they re-implement their MT system.
